I’m interviewing for a PM job at a nonprofit. Any advice for how to talk about salary and annual reviews, etc.? I worked in nonprofit many years ago but not in tech or in a PM role.

I wouldn't approach salary and annual reviews any differently just because it's a nonprofit. If the nonprofit is large enough to have a PM role/team, then they should have a fairly standard practice around comp rate and reviews. Every industry, including nonprofits, knows you have to pay at least market rate for anything related to tech. Just ask the normal questions: salary range, career growth potential, comp (annual) reviews, bonuses (if any).

I agree with the response above - yes, their funding might go up and down, but they've likely had a discussion around what they can afford, and what they're expecting etc before they advertised for the position. Generally, money comes from different 'pots' in nonprofits, and so as long as you are transparent about what you're expecting and they can match it, you should be fine

Honestly, just because it's a non-profit doesn't mean you should be intimidated into taking any less than you are worth. I would approach it the same way as any other negotiation.

I agree with TPM 1. Ask the important questions and make sure you're being compensated properly just like you would be at any other company.

Just to clarify, I’m not asking for less and they have been transparent with the salary range, which is in line with what I want. I just know that funding for non profits is often hit or miss every year so I don’t know how they may affect future earnings, etc

IMO, that's not a nonprofit thing. Not enough funding is the same as not enough revenue for a for-profit org. Both are inflows and if it drastically decreases, companies will look at decreasing operational costs which usually starts with layoffs and reorgs/restructuring. I haven't heard of annual salary being tied to funding/revenue (although it could be a factor for bonuses), but then again, I've also only worked at one nonprofit for a couple of years.

Agree with the above - don't undervalue yourself. Management at nonprofits does just fine salary-wise.

Asking for advice please. I’m making 57k as a Finance Coordinator (2 yrs). My work is a hybrid role: 1) Exec assistant for a C-Level exec, 2) Financial Analyst. I cannot become Analyst now due to an on-going visa application that is going to take about 1-1.5 years. I am very grateful that my company is willing to help me with my visa (around 10k) this year. But I am thinking about asking for 70-75k since living cost in LA is pretty high and sometimes my bank account can be negative. What to do?
