Understand where they are in the process and what HR wants you to say at the end about net steps. Make it conversational, don’t just move onto the next question after they answer - inquire about what they said or give them context that’s related. Also give them an overview of the role / org structure / day to day before asking them what questions they have.
I like to ask who they follow in the industry and why. The specific people/ companies usually don’t matter, but it gives an insight to how they think and how professionally curious they are. Also, re: selling the role and the company - very true, but also be realistic. All jobs have warts and I want my team to come in eyes open and ready for the fun and the challenge.
