See something, say something...
it's the demographic term that's flung around whenever they're sharing insights and research. I get it... but c'mon.
I use AA's and am an AA 🙃
pull em up on it! pretty sure they'd get upset if you started referring to them as H's for honkys right ☝️
I have a black American coworker who calls people of color melanined people - anyone else use that term instead? I should probably ask in the main feed of this bowl...
I've always referred to "AA"s as black since not all African Americans are from Africa? A lot of friends from the Caribbean who emphasize that they're not African American.
See I'm the opposite...call a group "blacks" and I'm ready to rage
I use when referencing a specific group in research or targeting and actually clarify when I am speaking about people of African descent not from America. Black is too incluisve as speaks to a race of people anywhere in the world vs the culture of Blacks living in the U.S. It works for me.
For instance if you want to target African Americans culturally I would not recommend Miami as a market. There are black people there but is not an African-American market.
Politely correct them
Thanks... I've had private conversations. Let them know how insensitive it is to label when the labeled is in the room....
@havas what do you prefer?
See I'm probably "the problem" cause I don't have a preference. I suppose I prefer African Americans I suppose. In my sing-songy little head we wouldnt be segmenting audiences by race at all
So annoying!
Agree that “blacks” is WAY worse....shudder....
I would say Black Americans in such a context. I usually refer to singular black people as just “black.” African American just sounds like some shit a racist white person in the south would say. Thoughts?
I am an American, that happens to be FULL black. I am not African, and I definitely am not "AA." look it it up and see where it comes from. We didn't name ourselves that!
