I’m knocking on 60 years of age. Been working for consulting firms since 2007. I don’t have a college degree - no AS, no BS, no post grad or MBA. I am ready to get out of the rat race and the ONLY reason I haven’t bailed is medical benefits, particularly Rx - my spouse has several medications he takes and without our Rx plan would likely be $5k/month. Looking for suggestions for individual private healthcare so I can GTFO before I die from this job. Anyone with experience in this area?

Obama are subsidizes healthcare so if you do not have any income about 80% gets covered. Did this when my mom moved to the states and did not qualify for medicare and medicaid. Pretty good plans and the broker was helpful on making sure a plan that costs 3k, i only get to pay 300 per month covering dental and medical, no vision though 😔

Truthfully, I'd move somewhere foreign that doesn't rape you (sorry but this is how I feel about some healthcare expenses) on that medication coverage unless you have family anchoring you to the States. I hope you can retire and enjoy your life.

D4 - where have you lived and what medical care needs to be that expensive? I guess you haven’t heard of the big difference in affordability between US and Europe? Medicine in the US is crazy commercialized, you dont need a full team of staff for a simple check up. I understand having to pay extra for complex treatment, a brain surgery or organs transplant, but not for all healthcare.

30 years of industry knowledge - recruiter called and tossed out what I thought would be an outrageous salary request. Started 2 weeks later. Followed boss from job to job for several years and have been at current employer 15+ years.

I would try to get the companies that make the medication to give you either a discount card for their meds or the discounted program they offer for it. My sons 1 medication is $6700 a month, with the program from the company it is $75 a month for me. Good luck.

@OP - Can you give more detail or backstory as to how you were able to break into consulting without a university degree? That’s a next level professional flex.

YUMMY.

What if you found a role that just paid $5k more?

5K more a month? So 60K more a year? And that’s 60K before taxes so it would likely need to be more than 60K a year to cover the 5K/month medical bills.

Easier said than done.

Op I hope u find a good solution. More power to u. Did u try part time consulting gigs?

I truly hate that we rely on employers to help subsidize health insurance costs in America. That’s why, I’m planning to retire somewhere in Europe

I mean without employer sponsored plans. Health care costs via Cobra or ACA are exponentially more expensive

Any chance you served and are eligible for VA healthcare? Otherwise agree - get outta dodge in another country for a bit. Come back if you feel like it after Medicare eligibility. Otherwise part time gig that offers coverage. What a stain on this country that this is even a question.

I currently work in Sales with the intention of moving over to marketing in the near future. I received two offers for BDR/SDR roles from

I like both companies’ software and it extremely hard to decide which position will get me into marketing faster as it is not a traditional BDR path to take.
