I’m leaving Big 4 as a S2 and my parents are disappointed that I’m giving up my full career potential... My counselor at the firm is also saying I’m selling myself short. Did anyone else feel (cont.)

No that’s awesome!!! I think ppl in professional services are brain washed to think this is the only career to be successful in. If you think the new job will make you more happy than go for it. I’m sure you will be great at anything you do :)

Your not giving up on your full potential ... you can always go back just make sure you conduct yourself professionally. The way I think about PA is that your on an elevator to the top of the corporate latter so the further you go up in PA the high position you’ll have when you get off, but now that you got off the elevator, you now have to take the stairs to the two (meaning it might take longer but you’ll get there). Just keep on doing good work, learn, and teach others!

First of all, it’s your career. Not your parents’. Idk if you come from an Asian family, but if so, stop listening to them if they told you that they were disappointed.

The fact that you know what you don’t want to do and have the balls to say that and follow through, makes you brave! It also takes you one step closer to what you want. Stop listening to others, and start listening to yourself. It’s never going to be easy, but you’ll be happier.

I’m feeling the same and an S3. Looking at leaving even though my next promotion is manager. But found a great opportunity. I agree with proviti that people in public accounting are brain washed in a way. I can’t wait to make more money and work less. I’m burnt out

similar way when leaving Big 4? Although I had my reasons to leave, I can’t shrug off this feeling of leaving my career behind... How did you deal with it and how did everything turn out? Any advice is greatly appreciated! (Also I’m going to a fortune50 company as a Sr. financial analyst)

You have to do what you feel is right for yourself. And I can tell you from experience it is very important to have both public and private experience on your resume as you get older/move up the ladder... I myself have been in PA for 20 years and every time I start to look around I get told that I am going to be very limited because I don’t have any private experience... congratulations on your new job, you will do great!

Had something similar when I left B4. All my family and friends (who don’t work in the industry or close to it) couldn’t understand why. Time has confirmed it was the right move. It’s your life and career, always remember that.

Hey friends,
I have no experience in copywriting or advertising but I have an interest in becoming a copywriter. I’ve been working to make this move for about six months, which included a few summer classes in graphic design (mostly Adobe CC) and a lot of reading in my down time. I cannot afford portfolio school right now. Would it be beneficial for me to start a blog at least to show I am capable of writing? Thank you!

What are the chances of me getting a manager title directly from big four? Thanks. Will on paper have 4 years of experience (early promote to senior so more than 2 years of experience as a senior). I’m not interested in going as an experienced senior since I am already acting manager on a bunch of engagements. Any thoughts?

Hi Sharks,

I'm holding offer from KPMG GLOBAL as SAP functional consultant for Assistant Manager role.
Relevant YOE - 6+ yrs.
Total YOE 10+

Is it really worth to join one of the Big 4 coz I'm listening very bad reviews about big 4s regarding WLB and deadlines-work pressure.

I'm also holding offer from TechM.
Not much difference in terms compensation.

Expecting your valuable guidance.

Is MBB (mostly thinking about McKinsey) really that bad in terms of WLB?

I feel like people tend to exaggerate things sometimes - i was told i'd be working approximately 65h at Deloitte in Tech Strategy and honestly that barely ever happened.

I wasn't considering switching since I love my job and my team, but many people are telling me I shouldn't "waste" my potential at Deloitte (whatever that means...). They kind of got to me and now i'm looking for more info about the culture/work at MBB.

Has anyone taken a sabbatical from work? Not sure if too late but I just realized there’s no way I can study for CPA at work. I want to ask coach if I can take a leave from May-July (3 mo.). Since I’ve started, I’ve been on 9/30,12/31 that is lasting until mid May. I’m scheduled for 6/30 and then it starts again with the 9/30. I’ve been working 65+ hours a week since November. I had to work through all holidays and breaks. Really no time to study.

Is too gaudy to ask what your total sales/renewals target would be for a potential job? Also, is it too much to ask what account list or target companies you would be given? Had an interview where I asked this and the interviewer scoffed at my questions saying that if they made an offer then we could talk about it.

Hi Team,
I have requested the TCS to revise their offer to which they have agreed, but in the portal still their first offer letter is available and i am supposed to accept/reject their initial offer before 6th Sept or else it will be null and void.

What i should do, please suggest..
Should i accept the first offer letter or wait for revised offer letter ??
What if they give revised offer letter after 6 sept..??
What will be the consequences!!??
Need your valuable feedback & suggestions.
