No that’s awesome!!! I think ppl in professional services are brain washed to think this is the only career to be successful in. If you think the new job will make you more happy than go for it. I’m sure you will be great at anything you do :)

Your not giving up on your full potential ... you can always go back just make sure you conduct yourself professionally. The way I think about PA is that your on an elevator to the top of the corporate latter so the further you go up in PA the high position you’ll have when you get off, but now that you got off the elevator, you now have to take the stairs to the two (meaning it might take longer but you’ll get there). Just keep on doing good work, learn, and teach others!

First of all, it’s your career. Not your parents’. Idk if you come from an Asian family, but if so, stop listening to them if they told you that they were disappointed. The fact that you know what you don’t want to do and have the balls to say that and follow through, makes you brave! It also takes you one step closer to what you want. Stop listening to others, and start listening to yourself. It’s never going to be easy, but you’ll be happier.

I’m feeling the same and an S3. Looking at leaving even though my next promotion is manager. But found a great opportunity. I agree with proviti that people in public accounting are brain washed in a way. I can’t wait to make more money and work less. I’m burnt out

similar way when leaving Big 4? Although I had my reasons to leave, I can’t shrug off this feeling of leaving my career behind... How did you deal with it and how did everything turn out? Any advice is greatly appreciated! (Also I’m going to a fortune50 company as a Sr. financial analyst)

You have to do what you feel is right for yourself. And I can tell you from experience it is very important to have both public and private experience on your resume as you get older/move up the ladder... I myself have been in PA for 20 years and every time I start to look around I get told that I am going to be very limited because I don’t have any private experience... congratulations on your new job, you will do great!

As long as u got the credential you got what you came for.

Congrats on the new job! You know your career better than anyone else. Plus you can always come back to PA if you want

Had something similar when I left B4. All my family and friends (who don’t work in the industry or close to it) couldn’t understand why. Time has confirmed it was the right move. It’s your life and career, always remember that.

Current S1 here. Is it okay if my resume experience is just: B4 Internship > Associate > Senior? (All in the same firm/practice) Never done other internships. The only other thing I could include is a student assistant job I had in college. Not sure if that's even relevant. Guess just the progression at this 1 firm is enough? Just looks a bit incomplete on the resume.

I did an internship with a boutique consulting firm that got extended for a full year while I was in school full time as well. On top of that I have 16 months of experience in my B4/T2 consulting firm, and I have a ton of other experience on top of that interning at banks and startups. TLDR; I have 3+ years of experience, 1 year at a small consulting shop and 1.5 years at B4 upon graduation. Is it true that none of this experience really counts?
