I'm leaving NYC in about 6 months it feels between politics and COVID it's gotten pretty toxic the culture is very anti police and it feels everything that I loved about nyc is gone. I think job wise things are going to be remote for a while. I'm buying a massive 6 bedroom house down south and going to live my life.

Gentrifiers abandoning NYC right now is my glimmer of hope that I can afford to own property in the city I was born and raised in.

The police was what you loved about NYC? That’s...unique

My question also...a weird segue from Police to 'happy'

Umm...ok. Good riddance

After what the police did in the West Village this past weekend, and after the SBA president went full QANON, I don't see how any resident can support them as an entity.

Over the weekend, a crowd of pickups with Trump flags blocked 5th Ave for 30 minutes

Did you expect a bowl of New Yorkers to get sentimental / happy for you..?

Ironic because I'm a southern taking this opportunity to make the move to NYC in 6 months! But I'm also a WOC and things are looking pretty bleak down here

Agree OP, NYC has taken a nose dive over the past few months, and I don’t see it getting any better any time soon. Glad to hear you are moving somewhere you will enjoy!

NY will recover. Just need a new mayor

“Between politics and COVID” ummm are you blind to the fact that maybe 20% of NYPD know what a mask is and half of that group wears them as a chin guard? Lol

My husband and I have been here since the late 90s and this has been the first time we have talked about moving somewhere else. It’s depressing how quickly our City can change back when we have come so far. Good luck OP.

I have been at my company for a little less than 4 years now. I’ve had the third highest sales last year out of a team of 50 and consistently the highest outbound calls per week. They told me I can start WFH once I hit $1mil in profit, but then rescinded right before I hit the goal. They have also denied simpler request like time off, when I know they have approved this before for others. I feel super unappreciated, but the money is great. I’m not sure if I should look elsewhere and start over?

Most or all the more senior managers are in the USA. Electronic Arts (EA)

New to fish bowl. I have been an insurance adjuster for 25 years. I work for State Auto Insurance. I have been with State Auto for a little over a year and to be honest it’s been the best insurance carrier I have worked for. They are hands off and let your claims experience run the claim process. The work culture is fantastic. Recently it was announced that Liberty Mutual would be acquiring State Auto. To say I’m a little disappointed is an understatement. Any thoughts from people that know LM?

Landed a job in NYC. As much as I want to live there and will be moving in with my partner I think the most financially savvy option is to live in Jersey city to save on the city tax. Both our salaries would definitely go up next year so moving to the city would be a huge possibility in 2022. Has anyone else started our in Jersey city first ? Is it worth it or should I just try to make it work in NYC ?
