Annelisa Smith or Collin McKean at McKean Smith. I don’t know much about grandparent rights in OR as I don’t practice or have a license there, but it is a neighboring state (so the need to refer comes up) and I refer family law cases to Annelisa and Collin.

Thanks

Rose Hubbard or Bryce Kaufman at Rose Hubbard Attorneys at Law is great.

Hi Fishes do anyone have received MSI yet?!

Recruiter said that due to office closure(holidays), I won't be getting the written offer until the new year. I was thinking of enjoying my holidays but now m stressed🤣.

Why does it take so long? Is it a complex internal process for drafting and approvals of offer letters?

Please send positive vibes🙏

Hi all! I was admitted into an M7 with almost a full ride (~80%). Although I am extremely grateful, I wanted to ask if it would look poorly on me if I reached out to try and negotiate a full ride or see if they can point me out to other scholarships that I might be able to apply to. I wouldn't be leveraging anything as my other acceptances are T15 with no scholarship. Thanks for any insights!

Been working 60-70 hour weeks for a few months straight, stress and workload of my current gig is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Once I missed my second period in a row due to stress (took multiple pregnancy tests and talked with doctor) it was my breaking point. Have an interview on Monday for a lateral move with a $20k raise. Part of me worries I’ll jump ship to the same thing again, part of me is like, eh at least it’s more money and a fresh start?

Larger, sophisticated firm with amazing family law practice group making big overtures at me. Having coffee meeting with managing partner-elect, what are some topics I should focus on?

New firm has wide range of practice areas and would be 60-70 attorneys. Really like attorneys in their family group and have arguably “better” clients. Have practiced 10 years at same small office (crim/PI/fam) and feel capped out. Won’t be a partner/owner at current firm until boss retires (3-5yrs).

Quick vent, would love input: I’m an attorney working for a state-wide nonprofit. I’ve been crushing it this year and have been very successful in obtaining favorable divorce and custody orders. An OC (who is generally a terrible attny) just filed a bar complaint b/c I requested attorney fees, arguing they shouldn’t be allowed b/c I work for a nonprofit. The fee request is warranted & allowable. My manager thinks it’s a compliment, but I’m anxious. Thoughts?

Is anyone here familiar with RSUs and stock options as part of divorce? My arbitrator was not and she asked us to hire an expert to get a valuation. She’s convinced I cannot take my portion in kind if we could not settle on the value and I don’t want to be forced to sell my half to Husband at whatever valuation expert provides today (RSUs and stock options are under Husband’s name). If they low ball I rather take the risk and take them in kind. Any advice would be helpful.

Lawyers that love practicing family law, what do you like about it? Lots of lawyers say they will never practice family law (or will never again), but I know people that do love practicing it. I’m a second year associate at a small, but reputable firm. My caseload is almost entirely made up of clients who were referred to one of the partners but the partners are too busy so I end up taking the case. The clients are told up front that an associate, rather than a partner will be taking his/her case. I’ve run into an issue a couple of times where the client doubts my advice because I am only 2 years in. Has anyone else experienced this? How do I address the fact that I’m only 2 years in?

Contentious case. Parents each have the same amount of parenting time / visitation. Question is when the schedule changes and decreases frequency of exchanges. I send opposing counsel my client’s proposal and the response is “I won’t budge.” Thinking that’s odd (“I” instead of “my client” or the like), I respond that opposing counsel has an obligation to take it to the client, and immediately get “this isn’t productive. Next communication better be a signed agreement by your client.”
