I’m looking for alternatives to the big survey companies like Mercer. From time to time I need data (for example on vehicle allowances) but I can’t pay $1,000 for one report or $30k for all the data. My company and budget are just too small. Does anyone have some smaller, less expensive options they turn to? I’m willing to pay but Mercer prices. Thanks!!

Do you use a broker?

Also check IRS publications.

We use a benefits broker. I asked them but their access is limited to the health insurance part of the survey. What do you mean by iRS publications?

That’s a great point. Thank you!

I seem to keep working with senior associates that ask me to do every little thing (draft two sentence replies to emails, make minor changes to docs that would take 2 seconds, etc.) I’m mid-level and I get there is a difference in billing rates. But it’s getting to the point where I’m having to drop what I’m doing every 30 minutes. Is this normal?

Hello Fishes,

I am thinking of switching my career to data science and Machine learning, but I have few doubts.

1. Can a Non tech background or Commerce background person pursue Data science?

2. What is an average compensation for a fresher in this field?

3. How does growth ( Appraisal, Bonus, promotions) look like in this field? Is it difficult to grow?

Thank you in advance 🐟

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

Hi all, I’ve been in my current role for 1 year now, I have 1 year of formal HR experience plus 5+ years of management experience. My current company is global and I’m the only HR rep at my site, with~100 EEs. The rest of my HR corporate team is in another state, including my manager. My manage is very hands off (I go weeks without hearing from her), so I don’t feel like I am learning much. While I like the experience I am gaining I would like some 1:1 coaching. Am I warranted to look elsewhere?

Coaching leader on factors influencing KPIs.

I had a chat with my business partner, and he’s said the team is complaining about the KPIs that are too far of a stretch.

I then suggested him to unpack that a bit more. When one is not hitting their KPIs, there could be many factors.

My initial view is that it could be true but we also have to look at CAPABILITY, TECHNOLOGY, WAYS OF WORKING etc before assuming our KPI is not set up right.

What is your approach in this scenario?

Hi colleagues!

I'm an experienced HRBP who's looking for some career advancement advice. I'm currently studying for my SPHR and looking to take the leap to HR Director roles. While I'm a strong HRBP, I've yet to manage a team. And while I train managers on people leadership skills, I myself, haven't had a chance to flex those muscles. Those in HR leadership, should I apply for HR Director roles even though I haven't managed a team?

Is anyone else trying to find the balance between being for the company and for the employees?
I've been told I'm too much in favour of the employees when I'm defending the lower-paid employees, or talking about employee well-being, but somehow it's ok when the higher-ups go out of their way to give the higher-paid employees financial assistance, or to allow toxic managers to continue in their positions because their feelings shouldn't be hurt.
Be honest, fellow HR folx, am I too idealistic?
