I'm looking to drag my ERG leads to a conference this year to learn more about DEI. What conferences out there are worthwhile places to learn and network and not just money grabs?

I joined this group recently on LinkedIn. Haven’t been to any events/webinars yet but they have 1-2 free sessions coming up this month.

This may be of value with some D&I topics - virtual and free. Also, ADP and Microsoft offer free virtual conferences during the year. ADP’s was exceptionally good last year.

What industry are you in? Sometimes there’s organizations for diverse professionals from xyz underrepresented groups in that industry that hold conferences.

I can’t think of any conferences that are relevant to ERG leaders (instead of DEI professionals), but you could always look at different DEI oriented vendors to do like a workshop with your leaders on allyship, leadership, etc..

I thought I'd share one that a connection at another company suggested: SHRM Inclusion 2023 in Savanah

Almost certainly will go to this one myself, but still looking for other options to check out.

Wish I had budget for this 😭😭

Maybe a virtual one at least? No travel costs

The Forum on Workplace Inclusion through Augsburg University in Minneapolis! It’s at the end of March this year, and there are a wide variety of offerings for anyone from DEI professionals wanting to go deep to those who are new to DEI and wanting to build understanding and skills.

I wanted to join a FAANG company with a better package but I already have an offer from a firm with somewhat good package and I have been unable to get into FAANG after good efforts too , what should I do , should I go ahead with this other firm (and then keep trying FAANG) or should I wait to absolutely get into FAANG, it would be odd if I make it to FAANG after 3-4 months of joining another firm and then leave it.Please advise.

Can I ask for hike? If yes, then how much descent hike I can ask for. If no, then I will be not eligible for my next hike as I am changing the team, till 1 year there will be no changes in my package.

Additional Posts in Diversity & Inclusion

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

I find myself in workshops and meetings, groups of 15-20 people, and I’m always the only woman. In my entire department, there are no other women. Any tips or words of advice to get out of my mental rut?

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

Hello!

I am being tapped to translate documents at work. I’ve done spot translation audits, and 1 larger Quality assurance document earlier this year, but was recently contacted about a potential large-scale translation initiative for next year.

Has anyone been compensated for these sorts of projects that would be “out of scope” for their role? How do you go about asking for compensation? Have any of you spun out and created translation service side-gigs?

I am frustrated as a Gay Woman who has given her all for 30+ years grinding to be the best. I have been in closet, out of closet, in-between and am tired of it. I want to be VALUED as a human being. I have gone from Rock Star to problem when people "found out". I have trained and promoted hundreds of people and been passed over for promotions because of not being a man. I have trained men with less experience, worse results only for them to move forward. If Diversity is important...prove it!

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.
