If a recruiter slides into your LinkedIn DMs with a job opportunity, is it appropriate to ask what the salary range might be in my reply? I’m considering new leadership opportunities (the COS role) at a much smaller newer consulting firm (~5 years old) , but in the short term, the compensation and benefits aren’t as good as my current role. In summary it feels like more work for less money, and when I asked for more - they couldn’t afford it. Do I take the risk and hope the future nets out or skip the opportunity? Would welcome any thoughts!

I joined Deloitte in 19’ and don’t buy into the circlejerk that seems to go on both for / against the company - I like being a part of the firm but am underwhelmed with where the recent compensation cycle resulted. I have an opportunity with a small business to get a roughly $45k salary increase, but would have 2 sacrifice the security of Deloitte, wfh and paternity leave, which will come into play this fall as we have a baby due in November. What expense ratio is considered higher than usual? Looking at my rollover IRA account with Vanguard where I’m invested in a target retirement fund, expense ratio is .15%
Compared with my current employer 401k plan with Fidelity where also I’m invested in a target fund, expense ratio is .09%
