Any mechanical engineers here?

Spotify in a hiring freeze?
I was in the final rounds for a job and the recruiter reached out saying it was paused and hiring is slowing down. Can anyone at Spotify speak to what’s going on there? Is this expected to last for a while? I was really excited about the role and felt like it was mine to lose.
Thanks 🙏

Yes... You won't get any unvested stock / sign on bonus and it looks really bad on your record. I would recommend against it. Use that time to relax and take a vacation. That's what I do every time I switch jobs. Might as well relax a bit before a stressful new job experience.
I would say go for the second role for now and apply for the first role when freezes are over. You’re not guaranteed an offer for the first company anyways so why would you place all your eggs in a non-existent basket (since freezes are going on with supposed “end” during the fall)
Go for the second role, you might fall in love with the environment and not even want to leave. You might hate the opportunity and look for something else regardless of the status of the first one.
There are so many unknowns, but if you are at a point of interviewing, my position is that you are in need of a change.
Dang are you an engineer at Boston scientific? Has something changed recently? I've always thought it was a scared place
Not an engineer but am on the tech side

If you need to change jobs right now go for the second role. You can’t count on the first. IF the first role begins hiring (big if) reassess then. You might really like the second role. Also maybe you can negotiate the pay a bit higher?
The first role doesn’t exist until you get an offer.
