I've been thinking about moving from one big 4 to another, but switching service lines within tax. I have about 2 years of experience, but wanted to try something different.

Normally I think I'd apply for experienced or senior positions, but I have no experience in the other service line I want to go to. Would it be ok for me to apply for an entry level position? I really don't mind starting over.

What are you looking to switch from and to? Regardless you should aim for at least as an experienced hire. Also consider transferring within your company, talk to people on the teams you’re interested in.

like

If you’re switching lines within tax, absolutely do not start your career over lol.

When people switch from core to M&A/International, it’s expected they bring their title with them and oftentimes they don’t reset their promotion progress either (this part can vary, however). With that said, oftentimes you have prior experience in your previous group (partnership, corporate compliance) that’s transferable to your new role. If you’re talking about doing something like a HNW individuals -> M&A move that would be much tougher but I still wouldn’t take a title reset. Just an unnecessary step back career-wise, especially at the senior level.

I just did this! Moved from one service line to international tax. No experience. But they hired me as a senior because they trusted me. Just find the right group that has a good learning culture.

like

Which service line did you move from?

If you’re switching from one service line to another I recommend doing it within the firm you’re already at, I think it’ll be much easier and then you can look to switch when you have a bit of experience.

Hi Fishes,

Good Evening!!

I got an offer from Wells Fargo and planned to join next month. But my current organization compensated and retained me. I informed the same to Wells Fargo HR.

But hiring manager from Wells Fargo scolded me on ping and said that I won't get any opportunity from Wells Fargo in future.

Kindly let me know is it possible to block my profile.

Thanks.
