If you have time, $ and patience, you may want to take some time off, enroll in a quality technical certificate program, and pivot in an area that is in demand post the pademics. A 6-12 month search is considered 'normal' in this job market. The market realistically is not going to bouce back and feel normal in another 1-2 years. So plan your search and life accordingly. Totally undersand your situation and level of stress. Countless others are in the same camp. Just take it easy. Take a break and keep moving.

What do you think you could have done differently with the 3 final round interviews?

I interviewed at places for almost a full year. It took that long before I got my new job, which is better title, better pay, and excellent team. Sometimes it’s luck/fit/circumstance. Look at the economic climate we’re in. It’a a tough time to job hunt.

One I think they were looking for a certain demo, the second they chose someone who had 2 YOE in the field I was applying for, and the third I messed up the final round case study

Start ups, particularly late stage ones are very competitive, especially as they become household names. You'll need to either broaden your net or stay patient. Keep an ear out for funding rounds, because there usually is a huge hiring spree immediately after. Consider what elements you like about start ups and think if you can get that elsewhere, is it the ownership, the multiple hats, the idea etc.

Multiple hats and the learning involved

Try Ops roles at Nike, Amazon, Walmart, Target or another CPG?

In a similar boat. It’s been a year since I started actively looking. 4 final rounds and all rejected. I’m so exhausted.

I have been working in my role at Wells Fargo for 2 years and I truly LOVE to work I just loathe a call center type of job. Does L.E.K consulting really give you both corp strategy AND M&A experience? That sounds like what I am looking for. Both finance strategy and CDD/Valuation/FDD experiences. I'm at Big 4 and it is impossible to get exposure to both. Does MBB have a role like that too? Or only L.E.K? (Or is this even true?) Happy Halloween everyone. Stay safe and have fun

What was your "I know I'm done moment" that made you decide you were ready to leave consulting? I am at my second firm with a much better WLB but starting to question whether I need to just exit altogether. I also hear about many ex-consultants being "bored" in industry jobs so want to make sure I am really thoughtful about what it is I am looking for outside of a consulting role. I am over the hierarchy and politics in consulting but not sure it that much better in industry.

Hi! I'm currently in a dilemma. I recently got an offer from a company that wants me to give a final answer by Friday AM but I am simultaneously interviewing with KPMG and in the final round waiting for my call with the partner. KPMG is my top choice, but if I don't get hired by KPMG, I don't want to lose this offer. Have any of you accepted an offer and then got an offer from another company that you wanted to work at and left the job that you just started? What other advice do you guys have?
