I’m making $120k in nyc as a senior consultant. No mba. 4 yoe. Am I being underpaid relative to other senior consultants?

Not getting the responses saying yes. Most SC don’t make $120. Picking one outlier make 200k for comparison is absurd

like

I am a senior consultant in T1 city with over five years of consulting experience and make only 110k. No MBA but I have a masters and two years of industry experience. You are most certainly doing fine.

like

Same - 114 in 5 years. Around 190 now which I’d say is above avg for 6.5 years

like

I think no, was in big 4 for a bit. I thinm you’re doing well OP

like

At B4 you’re doing just fine. The people saying you’re underpaid are either MBB or just winding you up.

like

Yes

like

There was this person in consulting exit bowl who said they got $200k TC with 2 Yoe.

Cup half full, you’re just delivering surplus value OP. 🥲 Honestly you shouldn’t be making less than $150K base though.

likefunny

120k is a great TC for 4 years.

like

120k at SC with 4YOE sounds pretty good. Definitely in line with market for Big4. I’m sure MBBs pay higher

like

I’m getting around $120k with 4 yoe in NJ. Ofcourse I know I can do better, but considering I do not want to switch companies, this pay is doable. All those who get >130k with similar experience sure would have switched companies.

like

Everyone saying no is talking mba salary. I’m also 120k salary in t1 and I know for a fact I’m if anything a little ahead of the curve relative to my peers

like

Im 125k in Atlanta - youre doing absolutely fine.

like

If it is just 4 years of experience after undergrad, you are doing just fine. Anyone saying $200K and all have no clue.

like

Yep

TC or base?

TC or Base, the answer is still yes, imo

Yes, but only way to fix it is get a competing offer. No point in having an offering leader conversation without a leverage

thats good, idk what these people are saying

I think you’re being paid normally!

Not sure how i feel starting as an associate again at same level as younger ppl who are way less pedigreed and have less experience.

I’m struggling to see the value of a MBA as a consultant. If you come back to consulting, you lose career progression. You can’t really go to PE/VC from MBA with a consulting background only. A MBA will not help you get any job in tech any more than your consulting experience would. Same with industry jobs. What’s the value other than a free 2 year party/networking session assuming you return to your firm?

Hey fam. Appreciate your inputs on this: I used to be a software developer and currently work as a tech risk consultant (CISA, CRISC certified). Have completed a couple of cyber courses but do not have prior cyber experience. Most cyber sec job postings require prior experience in cloud, aws, devops etc. Applied to a couple of roles but no avail. A) Can I start a career in cyber security without prior experience? B) Will CISSP or relevant cyber certifications help?
