I’m moving to the next round of interviews for an account management position. When looking at the backgrounds of those who would be my counterparts across the country, they all have ~20 years of experience whereas I only have ~3. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle questions about having less experience?

This is all changing, lots of data on Tech fluency & culture fit becoming more valued than experience & tenure in hiring decisions for many roles over the coming years. Interesting reports from Gartner, McKinsey, & others on this topic… now my real question…does this trend positive for me or not at 40, 15+ YOE…haha, I’m smack dab in the middle right?

like

I wouldn’t - I’d instead ask about the specifics of the accounts you’d cover. Sometimes (at least in tech) they’ll higher someone more junior on the same team to take the whitespace or leftover accounts from more senior reps

Coming from a hiring mgr- please don’t compare yourself. It comes across as not confident

like

That's an excellent tip. Expertise in one highly valued area trumps several years of irrelevant experience.

like

I would try to be as confident as possible and own the fact that you may only have a couple of years of experience, but you are ready to go all out and learn from the best. Just own it and stick true to your knowledge and be and genuine as possible. Not sure if this helps

like

Im actually in the same exact position with 3 years experience (as of July 10) in software sales.

like

Just focus on your strengths, skills and everything that you could offer. Highlight all your relevant skills and experiences. You have to show them that you can offer the same or even more to the company.

like

How old are you and how old are they? Don't you think it is normal to have lesser years of experience since you are way younger than them? Getting hired is not just about YOE, it's also about the manner of how you sell yourself to the HR. Highlight your skills and your qualifications. Put your best foot forward and tell them that youl have so many things to offer.

like

Quality not quantity. Hit them with your numbers. Additionally, carrying yourself with confidence goes a long way. If you feel unqualified, they will feel it too. Don't let that impostor syndrome get you down.

How important is money and stability for those of you in house? I seriously am considering an opportunity for probably much less money (even less compensation than my first in house role). It feels like I’ve been going backwards and part of me is feeling very dejected about my career at this point. I’m not excited about anything and feel a bit burnt out with things in the past couple years. I’m not sure if taking this new job would help or fit but I’ve also been quite unhappy and feel stuck.

Hi is there a solid resource for comp benchmarks? I’m in a new role and company is struggling to find benchmarks for my comp so it’s in my interest to help them. Like a resource to say eg “Director / VP of Product Strategy” comp ranges X-Y in companies of at least X revenue. Or honestly any resource that shows ranges of comp for roles of varying seniority across functions? Struggling on indeed or LinkedIn or elsewhere. My function can be tagged as product strategy or innovation fwiw. 🙏 thanks!

Today I am interviewing two people from the same agency that I just interviewed with 😨 serious red flag right?

For anyone who’s started at a company fully remote (Covid or otherwise)… when ramping into your new role, what did you do to feel more connected to your team/sales dept? I’m finding that I have questions that I don’t know how or whom to ask, I don’t know who anyone is and my manager can be MIA. This is my first fully remote role and it’s thrown me for a bit of a loop

Hello Folks, Due to very toxic environment I had put down paper w/o having any offer. Fortunately, within 2 weeks of NP I cleared interviews for almost 4-5 organisations. All HR, had said that in last month of NP they'll release an offer, just so that I won't have a counter offer. Now, almost 2 weeks are left for NP to end, and surprisingly all of them are ignoring my mails, calls and texts. Please suggest. I'm losing patience as I was looking for switch since April 2022. @
