How much did you make in your first year of business and what do you think were some key factors in increasing your revenue?

I see a lot of opportunities to do contract reviews or other corporate matters in states I’m not barred in. I don’t typically take those matters, but I’m curious what those rules are. I’ve definitely seen large firms handle out of state contracts and acquisitions all the time and I actually know other attorneys who do it too. I just haven’t gotten comfortable with that. Anyone have thoughts?

I’m a 2nd yr. attorney at small firm with two partners practicing solely contract litigation. I’ve been actively networking and trying to build my own book. I now have a potential client who is ready to litigate a dispute in different area of the law (a simple tort matter). My partners aren’t keen on taking case as it’s outside the firm’s practice area. Aside from having this potential client pay a large retainer, is there anyway to convince/persuade my partners to allow me to take this case?

How do you set boundaries if you’re salaried with no OT?! I told my boss that I’d only be online from 8-6p and he finds that he isn’t getting enough support. I am on an engagement that has 2 managers. I enjoy working with 1 manager. He is very understanding and provides feedback/guidance. However, the other belittles me. She is constantly asking “why” and even when I am not sure of the response she keeps pressuring. She provides no actual information for me to learn from.
