I'm new to the Fidelity HSA account. If I have all my money in my HSA invested into stocks, bonds, etc. (No cash balance at all) and I suddenly have to pay for a medical expense, do I have to first manually sell the stocks to pay off my medical bill, or will Fidelity automatically sell the stocks for me so that I can pay for my medical bill?

I was under the impression that most HSAs require a minimum cash balance before investing. (BAH’s requires us to keep $1,000 in cash before we can start investing)

Fidelity’s HSA does not have a required minimum balance to start investing. However, I recommend having $500 set aside just in case in the cash reserves section for doctor visits, prescription glasses, chiropractor, ect.

You have to sell. However, HSA isn’t used to pay medical bills but reimburse you for qualified expenses. I.e., you have to pay then you send in receipts to get reimbursed through your HSA cash balance

Fair point, I should have clarified that this is only if your plan administrator (and possibly employer) offer it. That is to say, my guess is there are some administrators who don’t offer debit cards at all, or some that have tiered offerings such that the employer can pay a little more to have debit card access. Who is the administrator of your plan? I have had several over the years, and all offered this. For OP’s purposes, Fidelity did have a debit card.

Could you pay out of pocket for the medical expense? This would allow the money in your HSA to continue to grow and it’s investments. You can cash it out when you really need it. Just keep the receipts

I’m mentally breaking down because I have been doing a job of a scheduler, PM, notetaker, regulatory submissions, and thus have no room for growth to work on strategy. I’m an AS and I am so sick of having to remind everyone because no one looks at my notes, recaps, and no one remembers anything from any meeting. Recently because I’m so exhausted I started making more “mistakes” like not catching a mistake on a submission. Is this because I suck or is it time for me to move off? I feel terrible.

Anyone know much about routers? My father in Leander has an incredibly fast Asus router, but his home is 7,000 sq ft and the signal completely dies when you go up the stairs to their mother in law suite where their tv is. Beginner and trying to get my finances in order. Income: $200k+. Maxed out 401k for the year. I have $60k in my savings account (just paid student debt off this year). I’ve searched the bowl… Are next steps: (a) invest (maybe $30k?) in ETFs and add to it each month, (b) open a HYS at HMBradley to hopefully get a high interest next quarter? I’m not convinced about the mega back door Roth (whether it makes sense for my situation) so putting in only a small amount there. Any thoughts? TIA!
