You sure? You really don't have to be that smart for this job...
I dont have enough patience for this job
you got hired for a reason! don't let those self-doubts get to you and don't be afraid to reach out if you need more guidance or help
First step is acceptance. So what are you going to do about that?
Rely on your good looks instead 🤗
Read more books! Start reading HBR. Watch TED talk videos. Make a point of having lunch with people more senior than you until you find one who you want to have as a mentor and who you want to learn from.
You don’t have to have the highest knowledge to do this job well, you just have to be able to learn. Nobody knows everything. Find things you want to learn about, and then take 30 minutes each day to intentionally do so
I’ve often found that the ppl that think that are dead wrong.
Neither is your client 😉
Many people feel this way. You just have to do your research on your project topics even if it takes putting in long hours on your own initially to get up to speed, read books for exposure, and really apply yourself. You’ll be fine. I personally don’t think our line of work requires geniuses. It’s almost all common sense & experience
Keep your head up; we're all just a bunch of good-looking blowhards who are good at talking.
It is not your job to reject your self . Let the world do that . Work hard and be focused .
I’ve definitely felt this way and can tell you it is a normal feeling in consulting. You have to believe in yourself first. You won’t always fit into you’re firms nice, neat box of expectations. Half of them are ridiculous. But remain strong, believe in yourself and find areas where you can strengthen yourself and excel. You will be absolutely fine. You have to know that first though.
Dunning-Kruger effect
Sometimes it’s the work that’s not a good fit. You must be good at something. Figure out what that is and find a project to support with that ability
Ill trade you, i got tricked into gov consulting
Wow. I’m really impressed by how many people just rushed to post such encouraging words. Today I was watching wonderful speeches at Senator McCain’s funeral and my faith in compassionate politics restored. And now this. Compassion exist in Corperate America too! A good day!!
OP: I really don’t have anything else to add to this list. I’d say turn to your colleagues, hang in there, soon you will be an expert. Save this thread. Someday you will look back and smile. You got this!
D4: I guess I’m spoiled by how we operate at Huron. It’s a truly collaborative culture and people go out of their ways to help each other

Sweet talk
H1 - Yes that’s because OP and the posters on this thread are not competing with each other. Could be a different story if OP thinks this out loud with his project team....
