I'm not very good at advocating for myself but I've been in my position for a few years now without much growth. My manager is nice, and has taught me a lot, but I'm not sure if I'll ever make it to the next level. What should you do in this situation? Leave?

Challenge yourself, set goals and work on achieving them, create a plan and discuss with your manager. Ask them to tell you what is missing from the plan and what skills and behaviours you need to show to get to next level. Write them down and work on closing them. Collect evidence and add to the growth plan.

find a mentor that will help you validate your growth plan is good, they'll be able to suggest other things to try or how to frame your goals better

Get an OKR / personal growth plan, invite feedback from upward and peers, invest own time on learning, plan a secret personal agenda when you manage your projects and think about how these tasks fit into your OKR / growth plan.

Most importantly - how influential your boss is within the org? If they were not influential at all, it would be a big obstacle for you to move up.

I am in exact situation, and I stayed in same for alomost more than a year now. It is not getting any better, so yes, I am working on leaving.

I feel like that may be short sighted? It often takes more than a year to really learn something in a role and take on meaningful projects that demonstrate you should be promoted.

How big is the company? Apply for the next level up at another company. It is up to you to grow you. That is the mind set of the people that I want to have in those higher positions. I will make come to be hell or high water. Those are the type of people that I want leading divisions and inspiring others to innovate and attack problems. I shouldn't have to tell you the solve the problem. Failure is ok. What did we learn. There are no handouts in war.

Hi Sharks, I recently got an Offer from Pwc AC for the position of Senior Associate (50% hike from current fixed pay). However this position is 2 levels down from my current position. This makes me feel concerned. In my current position, I work in a capacity of a senior manager (compared to PwC); however in Pwc AC I will be far from any management. My current company is ready to match my CCTC to PwC Fixed; with a retention clause.

Hello,

Accepted an offer but had a question on the employer background check. 6 years ago worked at a small mom and pop retail store doing marketing, website, and accounting. I've been working at a government agency for 6 months, helping to stand up a new team. The job involves interacting with real estate developers. One of the developers reached out to recruit me for a similar position that will pay more than $50k my current salary. I am starting a new job and will be working remotely for a few months before relocating to LA where the job is located. I was thinking that it would be a good idea to travel to South America for a few months and also to Europe since I will be working remotely anyways. I could maintain residency/address in the states while traveling. Would you tell your employer about your plans? Could they figure it out if I didn’t tell them? People who have done something similar, how did you go about it?

I lead a small marketing team of five people. Our company has been focusing on following a couple of different operating systems that put focus on "everyone should have a number" meaning that you should be able to give every employee a metric that when achieved on a daily or weekly basis, they know they were successful. An example is people in tech support should close 70% of tickets within 24 hours. Has anyone done this in marketing for creative positions like graphic or web design?
