Too much work and unsupportive leadership with no recognition. They know we have a deep bench and seem to take advantage of it

It starts this week
Find a replacement resource who can step in .. And have a discussion with the SM or his boss about how you really need to pursue a career goal but you have a replacement who would be a good fit. Do not make it sound like you are leaving the project because you did not like the people.
The previous director knew I wanted to leave and have a replacement consultant & a sr. consultant as well. I'm worried about bad blood

I'm in the same boat as you, OP I'm also up for promo, so it's a super delicate situation)! We only have to hang in there a bit longer until YE are finalized--we've got this!!
@OP: How is your relationship with the Manager and SM? Try to build some rapport where you can 'seek help' (i.e. giving them feedback). Relationships can be challenging but can help.
