I’m on a really difficult project. The other consultants on my team say it’s the most difficult they’ve had in their careers. I’m a new hire and I’m confident that none of my peers have any idea what I’m going through. It’s been really tough. I’m a really strong person but I can’t help but feel unmotivated and defeated. Feeling worn out already.

I’m sorry. Why don’t you try talking to the engagement manager about what you like and think could be improved?

like

When you get hit with these hard times you just have to tell yourself:

This too shall pass.

Meanwhile just do the best you can. The pragmatic way to approach this is just don’t be the worst performer on the project.

like

I think it’s obvious that I’m performing above what’s expected. But the manager is definitely hard to impress

like

What's difficult about it? The client? The subject matter?

Two important things here:

1) This isn't an indictment on who you are or your potential. If everyone else is confused, then of course a fresh consultant is going to be even more lost. Don't think you're a bad consultant just be agse you're confused

2) talk to people. The best thing would be to talk to your team (maybe someone below the manager level) and just express your confusion. If not someone on your team, talk to your mentor, others in your start class, etc. Important to at least have an outlet

like

I definitely have been talking to people but I’m worried that I’ve become the negative person in my circles which is just not me.

like

What is difficult about it?

like

Everything. From vague requirements to tech performance issues to hard people to work with.

Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to exit a project if it is destined to fail. If it fails, you will be cut to save face for the partner. So I recommend actively interviewing so that you have an escape plan if things really fall apart. Do not assume that the firm will have your back if the project fails even if you’ve worked your ass off. They will definitely stab you in the back. Remember, you’re not an employee, you’re a consultant providing services to your firm. Being paid as a w2 instead of a 1099 means nothing.

like

C - yeah that’s the harsh reality. You’re not always going to be able to deliver based on a number of factors beyond your control. We all get a really difficult one once in awhile and need to know when to bail. It’s typically not your very first one though. That’s just bad luck.

Can you talk to staffing or your advisor?

like

I’m in the same boat. Everyone is jumping off this dreadful project I’m on, and as a result I have to take more and more responsibility for a project I detest, and my staffing got extended. Get off before you find yourself stuck in the quicksand!

like

What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.

Yeah, no D2. No.

Hi everyone! I am in a weird situation right now that I haven’t been in before and could really use some advice especially from women who might have faced or seen something similar. Long story short, I was brought into my current firm and promised that the work I want to do is within the team/solution they recruited me for and aligned me with in the system. However, once I started working on the project, it became very clear that I’m in the wrong team and on the wrong project (continued below)

I learnt digital Marketing and started Interning at this Media House in Mumbai.
I am in the Paid Media Team. They paid 7k as stipend. Now they gave me an offer letter as Media Executive, the role of client coordination and basically a beginner account Manager.
But they've offered a monthly salary of 12k. They said the max they can do is 15k.
The problem here is, I was under the impression that Media houses generally pay higher, but 15k is too less I believe.
I want to know your real thoughts

am currently working as a project structural engineer in London and feel like structural engineering is a dead end job. I have spoken with engineers with 10years+ of experience and their salary is just over 50k.

Do any of you guys in the construction industry or any other engineering industry have any advice? I'm considering either switching to machine learning engineering or becoming a project manager. My degree feels so useless.

I spend 2 hours a day being productive and the rest of the time watching Netflix/Hulu/etc or napping/eating.

Have been doing this for 3 months now and I continue to get positive feedback from everyone. I can do this for another year (duration of my project) and no one will say anything.

Had to get that off my chest. Life is so nice/on easy mode these days 😬

I am adamant about financial boundaries; I was taught that men shouldn’t be asking me for money as a lady and I followed this advice. However, in the instance that a partner might have a financial challenge and you sense that because he doesn’t really tell you, is it ok to offer a helping hand without him asking or should you let him communicate his needs and you respond how u can.
