What about sticking with your new job for a little bit (making more money to sock away) while looking for something else?
This is what my husband says to do too. Also this gives me more time to find out if I truly do hate it. Starting over sounds so awful though!
Since you’re just starting the new gig, I would recommend clocking out at 5-5:30pm so you can set the expectation/create boundaries. Give it a little time and continue looking. If you’re completely miserable after a few weeks, the option to quit and keep looking is still there.
It sounds like the only reason is the 6:30 expectation? I agree with others here and just set the boundary that you need to be done at 5 but are willing to start early (8), if needed. Most places I’ve worked are more of a 9-6 core schedule but plenty had slight variance there for parents or other personal reasons.
Most people are reasonable and an hour isn’t much of a difference.
Agreed. Thank you for your insight!
A little background… company one (which I took the job), offered a very good salary plus bonus, remote, seemed like a great team and ok boss, unlimited PTO.
Company two offered 15k less, fully remote, amazing team, great boss, less than 3 weeks PTO.
What do you not like?
The offer letter doesn’t mention any times or hours worked.
I have several parents who work 7-4, see if they offer a flexible work schedule option.
