Hello,
I have an accepted offer from Amazon with start date early next month. With the hiring freeze in place I am worried that layoffs will be next and new hires are more at risk when it comes to layoffs. This is making me wonder if it is good time to switch. Would really appreciate some input in this matter.
I don’t see the problem.

Go copywriter in a content studio that's looking for a "hybrid." Places hiring for this now seem to be RGA, Huge, Social.Lab (Ogilvy), Laundry Service etc. (This is what I am and do 🙃)
I want to be a head of a department I don’t work in, because that’s what a strategy person who is a CD would be.
If your goal is CD- you have to switch to being a creative. You don't want to lose too much time in your career on the wrong track. Strategists don't become CDs unless they open their own agency or go in-house at a client where the position of Creative Director is very loosely interpreted.
Sincerely asking... what does a creative strategist do? I've never been at an agency that had that title. I've worked with planners. And I develop strategic direction for my team on projects all the time. But what do you do when you do it full-time? Where do you end and creative begins?
You will never be a CD as a creative strategist, not at a good shop at least.
Ok ok I was a little harsh. Sorry about that.
First things first, ask for a title change. Find a way to sneak copywriter in there. That would be a good first step in the right direction.
Go copywriter. It’s a billable job description and less likely to be seen as overhead
So, for context, it is a bullshit title at my agency. We are a small firm that has a tiny creative department. And no proper strategy/planning arm. I basically do everything from concept to execution. AD, copywriting, production- it all is me.
Well I’m already looking for a new position and my resume before this job is pretty impressive- I’m thinking I should just cut my losses and explain in my cover letter.
Disclaimer: my strongest points are copywriting and account planning/strategy.
Ummmmm seriously? If you aren’t ever the person creating the work, you should never become the person directing the creative. This is the stupidest post I’ve seen in a while.
I'm with @ECD, I'd never heard of this title either. (Could be because I'm over 40, or it could be because it's a bullshit title, it's hard to tell anymore). But the idea of being a CD when you're not creating work, only commenting on it, seems impossible. Or maybe its the new model for the whole industry. Did I mention it's hard to tell what's bullshit anymore?
