I’m in a similar position but as a junior trying to break into the industry. Seems like connections are more important now than ever. I didn’t go to ad school/design school but cold emailing has actually led to some meaningful “professional friendships” and freelance gigs.
It’s so competitive that if you don’t have a referral it seems like you’re SOL...
Sure! So since i’m a designer most other designers have a personal website with their contact info. Many list their email on linkedin as well. If they have neither, i look at what company they’re at currently and use this site mailscoop.io which helps you find a person’s email if you know their company. Have been able to reach people successfully this way. Good luck!

It’s a tough time right now. Especially with positions expected to be remote for a while. If you’re able to hold off until mid-late 2021, it may pick up again as spending increases (hopefully). Even those of us living here are having a difficult time.
Hang in there but it’s pretty quiet I think. Never in a million years could you persuade me to move to NYC in this pandemic. I haven’t seen it this bad since I was a kid.
