I'm pretty proud of the progress I've made when it comes to staying on task in my work life. What I'm having bigger issues with is transitioning from one thing to another. Ex..I'll go to pour a glass of water after finishing something, realize the trash needs to be taken out, realize I need to walk down to pick up my mail, etc. Any tips on making this easier?

Hi! Congrats on your progress, OP! What I do is, I make a schedule and checklist so I know what I am supposed to do next.

This is what I do as well. And I do one task at a time and focus on that one task. I have noticed as my meds wear off that does become harder to do.

This problem PLAGUES me too. One detour from the task at hadn't and then all the sudden my brain organization is an absolute mess. I've found that having a piece of paper and writing out tasks always helps me out.

I keep my work stuff separate from my home stuff, as agonizing as that can be. Mixing home tasks/work tasks never works, so I try to get my work done first before doing anything pertaining to making my place nice.

I try to lean on routines. But sometimes it’s a battle to maintain metacognition. I’ll narrate to myself “ok first I need to do this and then that. What next?” I can be in La La land so I have to bring awareness to myself a lot.

Awesome! Yeah it’s a way to articulate metacognition. One of my many hacks haha.

I keep so many to-do lists on my phone and set alarms constantly for the important stuff. And for the minor stuff, eh.

I do this a lot. When I catch myself stopping on tasks to do another, I make myself aware then make the decision to finish the first task and not worry about the others until its done. From there I prioritize what's most important.

My greatest hurdle. I did try making lists, checklists to be exact so I have the urge to get tasks done one by one and checki it off my list. Rearranging my things also helped. For example, I only put work related things in my desk (no household stuff welcome) to minimize distractions. Hope this helps you as well.

Following this thread cause I need some tips too. I have one too many half finished glasses of water around my house as I type this out. I was only supposed to check the time but now here I am on the Fishbowl.

Looking for a good psychiatrist in Manhattan, or at a minimum someone who can review my existing meds. Diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and depression, taking so many meds for many years and still struggling. Appreciate any leads. Also open to a new psychologist. Feel free to message me directly. TIA!

Insecure about my IQ. FSIQ is 115, with GA 140 - I feel smart trapped in a stupid body because I can’t shit done quickly. I’ve had to work 2x as hard as others to get to where I am, but feel like a complete fraud now.
I’m constantly overwhelmed by tiny things, which prevents me from doing my best thinking. Any advice on jobs for people who good for ADHD-PI? Consulting doesn’t seem to be the right one for me.

This job’s demanding things from me I can’t even achieve in my (much simpler) personal life - like getting organized, planning head, keeping time, multitasking. I’m smart (I think?) but slow and it’s very hard to focus, stay motivated, and see tasks through. At what point do I walk away? In reality every role that pays well is going to demand these skills to varying degrees and I’m all but convinced I’ll never have them - after all I’ve been trying since childhood. What to do? 😢

Any female ADHD Consultants here? I’ve never been diagnosed but have a bit of suspicion. From what little research I’ve done, seems much harder to diag in women since there’s no clear phenotype.

Therapist recommendations in SF Bay Area? I was diagnosed 2 years ago but I had to move immediately afterwards and never really started seeing a therapist for ADHD. I have the inattentive type. I would appreciate recommendations for a therapists specializing in adult ADHD. Cigna in-network would be a plus :)

Has anyone taken themselves off of medication, and then made the decision to introduce it back in to your ADHD management? What contributed to that decision?

Is anyone on a low dose of Adderall or a similar stimulant, and do you find it helpful/effective?

When I was diagnosed (at 20 yo) I started on Adderall XR and my psychiatrist essentially took a “keep upping the dose until you feel side effects” approach, even though I still saw some benefits at a lower dose. I’m currently unmedicated and am somewhat hesitant to restart, but feel I could see some benefit and better stability with the help of medication.

I started Vyvanse two days ago and have been getting really bad headaches. Has anyone else experienced that? 🥲 I have been drinking water and eating protein but I feel awful, had to take the afternoon off

Struggling with ADHD 😞 can someone recommend a book that provides insight and organization/coping skills?

Hey all just FYI my psych told me in my appointment that stimulants ordered from Express Scripts often give patients problems...including me. Felt like I was taking something totally different.
