I’m really burned out by WFH and plan to take a week off. Don’t want to go out too much yet so will likely just stay at home. The challenge: I have no idea what I’m doing with several days at home - maybe just binge watch Netflix? Any ideas?

Go hiking, read a book. Ignore the inevitable “work on some training”. Please feel free to do absolutely nothing and take care of yourself.

^this. Feel free to do nothing. Some degree of boredom improves creativity! 😄

Took a week off recently and stayed home. I went for runs and bike rides when I wanted to get out, read some books (non business), watched some sports + netflix. Best part was be daily afternoon nap though - definitely recommend!

Try some calisthenics at home. I’ve been doing body weight workouts and learning new exercises (e.g. hand stand push ups, assisted one armed push ups, etc). Mentally relaxing and your body just feels more stretched out from all that WFH backbreaking routine

like

Get away from the computer screens. Walk in nature. Read books

As everyone said above. Also feel free to bake and cook more. Make yourself some yummy treats or drinks you never have time to make when grinding with work. Go outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather with a book or run or JUST STARE AT THE SKY and do nothing at all. Shop for something you’ve wanted or needed for a while but never got around to. Take a nice hot shower or bath everyday to unwind. Find a cool new workout on YouTube (I’m trying belly dancing). In the same boat as you OP. Enjoy the week and do what you feel like doing every moment. You dictate it for yourself and that’s the beauty of this

I was burnt out and ended up sleeping a lot more than I expected. It was great.

Clean your bathroom. Like a deep clean. So deep you’ve never cleaned like that before. Oh — and listen to a podcast or audio book while doing it. Taking a break from a screen to do something so “mindless” can help ease your mind immensely.

Just chill out. You’ll come up with something once you have had a few good sleeps and relaxed days.

All of this!! Avoid putting any output goals (personal or professional) on anything at all and the time will fly by anyway.

Get high, order food, and netflix away...

No lie. Especially if you have an SO who might be feeling a bit neglected as you renegotiate work life “integration”

Maybe order something for a new hobby to try out? Embroidery? Painting? You could re-do an old piece of furniture?

Books, podcasts, music

Don’t forget the top shelf mags

In your opinion, where is the big law “office” going in the next few years. Do you expect them to keep the expensive real estate + eventually demand people back in, or consolidate, downsize their overhead and keep WFH? Relatedly, will that change the markets in the big metros?

I recently met someone in another country where I’m working remote. He asked me to be his girlfriend but I’m moving in about a month. He doesn’t want to do distance unless I move back (which is an option with remote work, but visas are tricky). I really like him but don’t know if I’d be able to move back here between work/borders/etc. Do I keep seeing him and just try to enjoy the now? A part of me just feels so sad about leaving and breaking up. Idk if it’s worth it.

I can honestly say that working from home these last few years has been the best thing that’s happened to my career as a producer. I never realized how distracting being in an office was. Now, I actually can focus on bidding, scheduling, reviewing contracts, and all of the stressful parts of production WITHOUT having to factor in code switching and a commute. I left my agency producer role for a fully remote producing role and I’m just….thrilled. Anyone else refuse to go back to office? 😩

I feel like the usual consulting exit messaging to new employers used to be “need to get off the road”. For those exiting during the pandemic, how are you phrasing the decision to exit to potential employers? My concern with saying something like “need improved work-life balance” is that it equates to “I want to work less hard” given that many companies allow remote work right now which blurs the hours of operation. Am I overthinking this?

I’m currently married with no debt and have max match 401K, a little in Roth IRA and about 50K in savings account. I plan on investing in real estate and buying a personal home in the next 5 years so am curious how much should i keep in my savings account and how much should I put in VTSAX. Also, since I don’t want to put alot of my savings in a IRA or Roth CONT.
