I'm recovering from covid and had the worst requirements gathering meeting ever. I couldn't seem to ask any of the right questions and the conversation either went in circles or plainly fell flat. At one point my director asked a sarcastic question as a way to clarify something I asked and it was just sooo awkward. I'm seriously regretting pushing through and working today. Hoping my new relationship with this leadership won't come to sad, pitiful end after today's call. How do I redeem myself?

Personally, I don't think that you need to redeem yourself. If you disclosed to them that you were sick, they should understand. I have COVID before and I had such bad brain fog. I could not imagine having to sit through an entire meeting and ask questions.

like

You're welcome. I hope that you feel better. COVID symptoms can be tough especially when you don't have the time to rest and are expected to carry on your days as usual.

Sometimes it’s just the way that the team you are getting requirements from is interacting. I’ve had plenty of requirements meetings where the conversation flows among stakeholders and I barely have to chime in. Others where it feels like pulling teeth. So I wouldn’t put in all on yourself. You can always follow up with an email and documentation to say “these are the requirements I captured, but I’d like the stakeholders to weigh in where I have gaps”

like

Great advice! Focus on the objectives and tangible and don't let days like these get you wound up. It's how you respond or follow up that matters the most

Were they aware that you were sick? If so, I think they would be empathetic to your situation. I agree with above. It takes more than one person to have a conversation so if it was going in circles that could mean everyone was a bit "out of it" during that meeting.

I love my job and the people I work with, but there’s one thing that really bothers me: the lack of diversity. Sometimes when I walk into the office and see everyone else around me as the only POC, it feels kind of weird. I don’t think anyone here has ever said anything racist or sexist to me personally, but I don’t feel comfortable talking about these issues with anyone because they might take it personally and then things could get awkward between us.

Hey everyone, I need some advise. I've been interviewing for a company for the last 4weeks. The salary was originally discussed as (say Xk) but the recruiter I'm working with said today that they "realigned the goals" and brought the salary down to (Xk-10). I wasn't even okaay with Xk tbh, and now they've gone ahead and reduced it by 10k! I'm attending the final round on Friday - do y'all have any tips on how I can negotiate my salary to X+10 and let them know that this is highly unprofessional?
