Thank you! I have a toddler as well. I'm feeling very conflicted about going back. I don't want to stay home and love what I do, but I am struggling with knowing busy season is around the corner.

I still have those conflicted feelings about going back. Hope you have a great team and find your groove at work soon. My team and partner made the biggest difference.

like

Thank you! I agree that the team makes all the difference. I'm glad you have a good one!

Good luck!! Hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you. Just the baby or do you have any more kids?

Do everything you can the night before. Check book bags and pack lunch boxes with all non perishables. Under no circumstances allow screen time in the am once your child gets to the no stage else they will never get their shoes on. Certainly easier if you have a nanny. We just switched from nanny to school full time and it’s been good! But I always do everything I can the night before and get up early for some me time before the crazies get up

like

Thank you for the advice. I agree with all of that. We priced out a nanny, but ended up going with a stay at home mom due to the significant cost savings. The first day I got in a workout before the chaos, but have not kept that up. Next week, I will shoot for more than one day. 🤭

I know it’s hard. Mine are nearly 3 years apart, so I get it. I really relied on my husband to help a lot with the toddler and getting him ready since I was tied down so much with nursing. Now my husband is gone already when the kids wake and I get us out the door. I would love to have a perfect AM/PM routine, but to be honest, every morning is survival mode. Toddlers and babies can be unpredictable, so any day I really thought I had it together would be a complete flop. Do they go to daycare? I’ve had the occasional day where I had to drop them off and then go home and finish getting ready. Just be prepared for it to be rocky but know you’ll get through it!

like

Yes, my husband is not able to help in the mornings, which is challenging. I don't want to rush my toddler out the door after 6 months of slow mornings together. But I also can't get to work late and still leave early enough to have an evening. So far I've been able to wake up, get ready & load up the car (SO. MANY. BAGS.) before the kids wake up, which has been helpful. Thanks for the encouragement. Best of luck to you!

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage. I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest. Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

I have an exit offer to a major PharmaCo, really excited about the offer and company in another state. The problem is that the start date is right when my wife is due with our first child. Normally nbd, but we just found out that my wife has developed a heart condition because of the pregnancy. OBGYN and Cardiologist both have said that it would be ultra high risk for to move before the baby comes and will be safe 1-2month after. Tips moving the start date without getting the offer pulled?

Having a hard time figuring out where to buy a long term house. We both work in the city, and have a kid. We want decent space (is a yard too much to as for?), good schools, nice town, walking distance to the train. Yes - I’m hoping unicorns do exist. So far something like Bronxville and Scarsdale seem like good options. Open to checking out other towns in any region as long as the commute to Bryant park is close to an hour. Any suggestions?

Do you have many LGBT friends and do you necessarily care if you do or don’t? I have one gay friend who I catch up with occasionally and I think my husband has two. I never really cared either way about it, however I feel like I’m at that point where you primarily make new friends through existing ones, and they are having children and making other “parent” friends. Between that and living in a SFH neighborhood in the suburbs, I’ve changed my viewpoint over the last few months.

Two questions: 1) I’m pregnant with my first baby (16 weeks), any advice on when to disclose? 2) Does that timing advice change given our current COVID circumstances? I’ve been WFH since March, and while the Firm hasn’t indicated it’s going to require us back in, a handful of partners I work have started to mention it. I’d like to nip that talk in the bud and feel like a reasonable way to do that is to disclose. Thanks in advance for any thoughts?
