Definitely check if your university has a contract with a cloud storage provider, such as Microsoft’s OneDrive. Usually they have high storage caps and are free to use for you as a student so you can upload everything on your windows partition there and access it on your new computer.

If you use physical storage, make sure to make at least two copies in case the first drive fails
I'm also thinking of doing the same thing. I'm not sure what's the best backing up data. So I'm here for the comments.
