I’m seeing a lot of posts where leadership has been committed to making changes, but one thing I’ve noticed no one speaking about is transparency in pay equity. Ensuring there’s diversity in hiring future employees is great, but what are they doing to support pay equity with their current BIPOC employees. How can we ask leaders to release this type of data?

If you would be comfortable, post this in one of the main bowls. White counterparts as well as non-BlPOC need to see this. Until we get there, I’ll be asking people who have had my positions in the past for their salaries to get a better sense of what I should be negotiating towards personally.

Maybe not helpful, but my boss straight up tweeted the going rates for CW freelancers. ($30-$150 hourly in our area.) I think leaders being really really transparent about how they quantify costs and payment for labor comes down to being explicit about it. Like not an overwritten “we stand with you” statement, like real numbers, figures. A tweet, a google sheet, anything that prioritizes that truth.

The agency I'm at released pay data BUT they didn't releaae pay data for any of the partners lol. Also, they don't keep pay increases are so sporadic like.. it's helpful to have the transparency, but I/people don't know what to do with it...

Not likely to happen in this economy. They can hire blacks at mid-salary band rate but fixing the existing employees is costly for them to adjust for minorities and women. Wish the answer was different.

Hi All, Say you have an offer for Senior Test Engineer and SDET (not senior). Compensation is same. Both the companies are good. Given the narrowing boundaries between testing and dev, which position is better in the long run? I thought it'd be SDET. But, I'd like to have expert/experienced opinion.

I was fired last month after a short time at the company. I knew things weren't going well- it was a terrible culture fit & I was also planning my exit strategy. They wouldn't give me specific reasons other than to vaguely say it was performance related. I agree I made a few dumb mistakes (none of any dire consequence) but what kills me is that I tried really hard. I don't want to change careers but I have a deep seeded fear that no matter how hard I try, I will never be a "good attorney".

Parents are deciding between moving to WVirginia vs Virginia for retirement to be closer to us based in fairfax, va(ideally be at 1 hour driving distance). They currently in the mid west but WVirginia appeals to them because of low taxes, low cost of living. We are also poc so appreciate some diversity. What are some areas you would recommend both in Va and WV? What else should they consider prior to house hunting? Dad likes to garden/farm as well so looking for homes with large backyards. Tia!

Does anyone has the newest insight of how long the virus can last on different surfaces? I used this which is one of the only few that tells you about different surfaces. But this implies that for example your grocery bags and food packaging is not “100% safe or coronavirus free until after 3 days, and touching those surfaces could cross contaminate other things in your house, ultimately making people more likely to get the virus into their bodies. What’s your take on this?

Hot take: $1M net worth is very attainable by all the consultants on this app. Consulting is in the top 5-10% (or better) paying jobs in the US. $1M net worth would put you in the top 6-8% as a 35-45 year old in the US. While everyone starts at different points (i.e student debt) and has different life circumstances resulting in different timelines, consulting provides solid income to allow you to save, invest and build wealth, if you choose.

I need a bit of reassurance. My SO is ready (in the very near future) for a kiddo. I am ready for a kiddo... but...
