I’m so happy that this bowl exists. Any suggestions for an Attorney that can’t seem to stay in one place for up to a year? So far I have been a prosecutor, worked at a small firm, had a solo practice, done remote doc review, and now I’ve left the country for almost a year. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do when I get back……help

I asked about this recently as well and talked to my coach this morning. You’re definitely not alone in this. Trying to not be bored is a struggle. I found a firm with multiple offices that I can work from across the country and being able to change environment seems to help so far.

Have you thought about moving in house? This has benefited me in a couple of ways: 1. For small-ish in house teams, you can get absolutely anything handed to you, so it’s good for the novelty seeking part of the brain. If you like legal problems (and I am lucky in that I really do), this can actually be a massive career benefit—lots of new problems to fix, all quite varied, and your colleagues love that you will just throw yourself into it. 2. For larger in house teams, you might be able to move into different areas/take lateral secondments/work your way up and do different types of work on the way.

Industry is probably also a bit more accepting of neurodivergence than private practice.

And with all that having been said, it’s still a fight not to see new opportunities and get drawn to them. But so it goes!

Also, I feel like such a loser

You are not a loser. You’re trying to find your place in the world. Why do you end up leaving your jobs? I mean, I can relate and project your motivation, but I don’t want to assume.

Yeah, I completely understand. Are you medicated? Have a coach?

Find a really challenging area of the law. Or, if you really can’t stand it, consider working for a legal temp agency. They will float you from firm to firm filling in when someone goes on medical leave, etc. and you will be exposed to different areas of the law while never staying in the same place too long. But, you would have one consistent employer - the temp agency. However, consider also how you will explain working for a temp agency for so long. “I get bored after about a year of working somewhere” doesn’t sound great to most potential employers.

I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.

I'm halfway through a contract position and enjoying it, and would like to transfer to full-time, but I worry about the 90-day gap in employment and that I wouldn't be able to find the same position remotely with this company. (have finance probs I won't delve into now.) Not sure how to a) tell my manager that I want to transfer to FTE but do not want to move or b) how/when to figure out my next move. Anyone willing to DM/maybe give some advice?

I am a woman with pretty severe ADHD. I’ve taken medicine pretty much every day since I was diagnosed as a child. Currently I take Vyvanse with 10 mg Adderall. Even with the medicine, I sometimes I feel like I’m barely a functioning adult. My SO and I maybe want kids but I’m terrified of 1) do I have to stop medicine while pregnant and breast feeding, 2) could I even do my job without medicine, and 3) could I really take care of a baby?!? I’d love to hear other’s experiences or thoughts! Thanks!

3rd year associate here. I'm a corporate attorney. After a rough year of a lot of personal (much of which led to my diagnosis of ADHD). I am on the hunt for a new job and have been thinking more and more about the impact my ADHD has on my work and I feel like the deficiencies in my executive function make it seemingly incompatible for me to practice law -- full stop.

I feel like I can't succeed because I have trouble working independently and managing time.

Any suggestions?

Tired of my pharmacy. Every single month I have to call the pharmacy for my Adderall, they say they don’t have any prescriptions for me, they ask for additional information, they magically find it, and then I have to wait like 1 to 8 hours to have it filled. It’s a pointless phone call. Why do I have to repeat these shenanigans every month?! Is it just Rite Aid? Is CVS any better? So irritating.

I just saw an ad for an app called inflow that’s supposed to help manage adhd and create strategies to address things like putting off and staying on task. It’s $22 a month which is cheaper than a coach but more expensive than a planner. Odds that it will actually help vs. being another recurring charge that I keep putting off canceling because of my executive dysfunction?

What are your best tips and strategies for keeping track of time and billing during the day?
