Asian Consulting Bowl

I'm so proud to be an Asian guy. So damn proud. But man, sometimes they sure don't make it easy for us.

Great piece on LA Times about Yangs run at president. Since Kamala Harris dropped out there’s been a lot of unconscious bias coming out against Asians as being “white adjacent”. Hate the model minority stereotype.

Pros and cons - we also get labeled as smart, non-violent, rich (?), educated etc.

Move to Asia. That’s what I’m doing after spending 17 years in the US trying to make it work. I love my college football, and I love my moist briskets. I love my white friends, black friends, Latino friends, my Asian friends, and they love me too. Even after more than half of my life, however, there’s a level of comfort I feel back home that I suspect I never, ever will in the US or elsewhere. Am I a loser? Am I a racist? I just don’t care anymore. I’m tired of watching myself.

Definitely isn’t easy, and when growing up my parents reminded me that if you do well - it’s expected, but if you screw up - you stand out. Instead of letting this get to me, been trying to slay expectations and really improve on the client relations part. After a couple of my mentors reminded me to play ‘client counselor’ + pre-empty let communicate and see what makes people tick / be happy, it’s helped my team from being unresponsive bastards to the trusted advisors. Be proud and let them see our pride / recognize our greatness!

OP - what area of the country you grew up in and where do you live now?

Move north and then double your salary to shut them up😜

I hear you OP; heard everything you’ve described and it does feel like i have to work harder - at work and in my personal life here in California. It’s the feeling that people don’t take racism against Asians as an issue and yeah asian men in particular are just viewed as smart/nice. Only recourse I have really is just work harder I guess.
