I’m starting a new job on Monday and the anxiety I’m feeling today about it is crippling. I’m excited for the role and team but the imposter syndrome is raging.

What’s up with the hiring managers asking me where I am from originally. Followed by “O wow, was it a big shock for you” I have an Ivy undergrad and been in US for over 10 years now. Most of these hiring managers are seasoned ex-MBB folks who I am sure would have worked with many Indians like me at MBB. Also never hear back from them again.

I’m feeling frequently tired and demotivated (aka burned out) at my current job, but I’m also frustrated at myself for not applying for other jobs or grad school. I see possibilities, but the idea of chasing those while grinding at my job seems daunting, or I’ll talk myself out of trying. It’s been a year of this and I’ve never felt so stuck. Has anyone else been stuck like this? How did you motivate yourself to get unstuck and either happily stay or exit your job?

I’m in a role where I have to build a personal brand - leadership in a startup. I don’t want to be a LinkedIn influencer though - you know the type - I really want to be a thought leader. I could go down D+I, or ER or something else but not sure if I should find a niche of speak more broadly or whether I even have enough experience to chat at all (I’m very, very young to be in this position).

I had an interview last Tuesday at a Law firm that I reallllyyy like, this was the second interview with 2 partners. In my opinion, the interview went well. I answered their questions and towards the tail end of the interview, it was very conversational. But I also understand that it ultimately matters how they think the interview went. I want to follow up about the next steps, and want to know A: is it advisable? B: what should I say without coming off annoying? C: is it too early to reach out?

You’re all a smart bunch so I thought I’d ask this question even though it’s not terribly on topic…. I was recently prescribed Prozac for post partum depression. I am currently exclusively breastfeeding - I’m unable to find any studies showing that use of Prozac in lactating mothers does not show any adverse effects in the infant. I’ve only found anecdotal evidence. Has anyone ever looked into this before? I am feeling terribly guilty that I’m hurting my baby.

Anyone here 30+ been single for extended periods of time (years and years) and not mind it? I just love being on my own, doing what I want and not having to answer to anyone. I’m 30 now, and am starting to worry if maybe I’ll feel lonely if I keep on this path. So far I feel pretty good though. When I have been in relationships, I’ve always ended up feeling suffocated and like I just wanted to be on my own. Even if I was madly in love at the beginning. I feel like the people who hate their careers are much more vocal than the people who are enjoying themselves. I’m a first year in big law, and I honestly just feel grateful to have a stable income for the first time in my life. My work life balance is good because I just draw boundaries and stop working at my cutoff time unless an emergency and make time for fitness/ wellness/ meditation. What is everyone’s opinion on going into a less demanding field while my kids are young. The pay is comparable to an attorney. However, I do not want to completely ruin my attorney career because I’m not sure if the short term job would be a long term career option.
