I’m starting my 2nd trimester and want to tell work I’m pregnant next month, but I’m concerned that I won’t get staffed on matters and then have little work to return to. Is there a good balance?

I told my firm at 5 months and it had zero effect on staffing. If anything, it was the opposite, almost as if they wanted to get as much done as they could on certain cases while I was still around. My experience is that if there’s work to be done, you’ll continue to get it up until you leave. Firms will want to use your time while they still have it!

Thank you for the positivity!

I have had two kids. My experience is that you will have to ramp back up when you come back regardless. That said, I took six months off with each kid (mix of paid and unpaid). I would tell people early so they understand why you might be throwing up in the bathroom or getting tired or whatever. And if anyone fires you, you have an airtight discrimination case...

Hope it doesn’t come to that! I’ve been able to skate through morning sickness as I’ve been lucky enough to work remotely.

Has anyone made a decision they wish they’d handled differently?

Our nanny takes my 7 month old out for one, sometimes 2, long walks every day (weather permitting). Love the idea of fresh air every day but its often for several hours at a time and he always returns home crying bc she's pushed him to his limit between feedings. She brushes it off saying hes just fussy which kind of irks me. Im also concerned that he's spending too much time strapped in a stroller. Is it reasonable to ask her to take shorter walks? Am I overreacting?

Hey moms, How do you usually split up work after a baby with partner? We’ll have parent’s support for a good long time and I know that might mean we could slack and then rudely be awakened by reality after they leave in a few months. So want to make sure both husband and I are part of it right from the beginning. E.g: should I be thinking of asking the husband to get into the habit of putting baby to sleep every night? Etc.
