I’m starting to think regardless where you go (agency side) the work will be there along with the politics and bs. Should we always base our next move with compensation as number 1 deciding factor?

Agree, comp should be a deciding factor... don’t be undervalued... but I’ve come to learn that a good manager is THE most important factor. (For me at least.) I’ve been to places where they threw money and perks at me but I had terrible bosses. I ended up totally demoralized and anxious. Good managers try to diffuse the politics/BS so you can do your job and enjoy it. Might not always be perfect but you have an ally.

Agree with Account Director. your boss will make or break you. Doesn’t matter the agency. There is Politics in every agency. I don’t play them. I do my job. Thus I keep my job. Frankly it is far easier to succeed in advertising then you think.

Should at least be in the top 2 factors in your decision making process.

No not as number 1 deciding factor but it means you should never ask for below what you think you’re worth

I am looking into joining a seed stage startup that's been around for 1 year. I have 13 years of experience and am currently a senior people manager making $470k per year (salary plus equity). The salary for the startup job would be about 1/3 of my total comp. What is a reasonable equity percentage to ask for?

Thoughts? 3.5 YOE. New comp just came out. 2021: 135k, 6.8% bonus 2022: 147k, 9.6% bonus That’s base +8%, TC +10.7% New salary only 5% higher than new joiner in city with 30% lower COL. Was expecting more given market. Only 2nd comp convo in career so trying to evaluate is difficult.

I work at a global asset mgmt firm that pays out bonuses in Jan every year. If I transfer to another team internally by the end of this year, would I still get a bonus- based on your industry experience at other major finance firms? I’d think I’ll be fine but in my previous two years, it was the MD of my group and my boss communicating bonus info to me - so not sure how this works. My current boss will also do my 2020 year end performance, not my new boss. TIA

Was talking to the husband about what to do when kid 2 comes, if I'd want to go part time/flexible and keep them both at home while we wait for the pandemic to calm down (kid 1 is currently in daycare). He said he would look into it as well so we could split the time, no reason for one person to take full responsibility. I almost cried lol Ladies!! Talk to your husbands/SOs! Maybe not all will offer that solution on their own but see if they are receptive to the idea if you're struggling.
