If you feel ready for R3, I would do it.
R1 2021 is going to SUCK
Working with mba consultant they say take a chance in round 3 cause round 1 is gonna be a bloodbath with people choosing to defer and the recession
Coach
SC1 and ZA1, I see both sides and agree with both. I think the most difficult thing to quantify which would easily answer the question for me is exactly how significant is the effect of international students being locked out of the country and other deferments? I've thought it over and I'm willing to bet that it is significant enough that I should apply now with 80% of my best than apply for the next R1 with 100% (though I do plan to apply again in the Fall if I don't get in).
There are other schools I can apply to this Fall, so the factor I mentioned about having to explain my growth in 4 months doesn't apply to those schools. I can shoot my shot now and again later this year, I've decided I should do it.
Worst that can happen is I'm out the application fee.
Kellogg is the only top uni I heard that has waived their standardized testing requirement; have I missed something?

The goal would be to apply to 3-5 of the M7 and get into at least one. If not, apply in later rounds to Darden, McCombs, etc
@Consultant OP - which schools are considered M7? What about the other schools? Darden, McCombs are part of which list?
Apply to both rounds maybe
Well the admissions know that too; they know Covid is changing a lot of things, so it won’t hurt you that much to apply both rounds. I’m actually doing the same. Applying to Emory, Booth, Kellogg, LBS, Darden.
It’s very clear their seats are still empty, so take ur shot now, because next year is going to be a whole lot harder. Classes are gonna be smaller, larger number of applicants, and deferred student too.
Only benefit of R1 is higher chance of scholarships, but if you start a whole year earlier, then ur salary adjustment will already pay for the difference (I hope this make sense).
OP: apply when you are ready.
