Activate your support network - tell a friend, find a therapist if you don’t have one, and then talk to a senior person at work who can help you frame the message.
Does your job offer an employee assistance program or hotline? These are usually free of costs and depending on your state, you can get at least a few calls to discuss with them and get professional feedback before deciding to disclose to your manager. If no, there are other hotlines to call. If you need to eventually share some of your mental health, that person should be professional enough to understand and should work with you as needed. Or contact your hr dept as well. 👍🏾
I’m in a similar situation and looking for advice. I do have a therapist but I notice that the two responses above suggest reaching out to someone other than the manager. Is there a reason for that? Personally, I am having a hard time and want to disclose minimal information before my reputation is heavily damaged - and my manager seems like the best person to raise this to.
