Hello, I recently started working at Applied Materials as an Information Security Engineer new hire and was wondering if there is anyone here who has been through a similar path at Applied, or within Information Security. I'm looking for information and advice on career growth on this field and salary expectations. I would love the opportunity to share knowledge and chat!

I second A1! Found out in my first year of working how much I love cooking and yoga, just by trying lots of different things out. Make it your mission to try something new as much as possible (every weekend if you can!) or even start a long term project (art, or something else)
Love is great (not sure if C1 is joking??) but PLEASE don’t make babies just because you feel lost in this world
C1 that is a horrible answer. That type of response actually puts people in worst mental states because they are setting expectations that not all people can live up to. You should love yourself before you love others. What if OP has fertility issues? Don't be so naive.
Just jump in
In the past i have done the following to find my passion
Do a triathlon
Marathon
Took up jiu jitsu
Did survival school
Fell into cycling at studios
Traveled to 8 countries in a year
Moved abroad
Did pub trivia religously
The key is to just move your feet...figure out whether you like it a few weeks later
OKAY LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT - even without a damn hobby in the world, YOU MATTER. YOU COUNT. YOUR PRESENCE AND ENERGY BRINGS VALUE TO THE WORLD. You don’t need to contribute stuff or anything to know what value you bring. Your presence is an indication that you’re valuable. The cells in your body inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide are why you’re valuable. You’re part of an ecosystem where if the balance tipped even by a person, would bring changes to the world. You matter.
You do bring another point about hobbies. Hobbies are for engaging yourself in other things. Hobbies are for staying busy and having fun. Try out things you never thought you’d enjoy. For example, I never thought I’d love going to the gym when I started 2 years ago but it’s something I’ve learned to cherish along with living a healthy lifestyle. Do I do it all the time? Hell no lol. And do I feel like shit when I don’t? Sometimes. But I know one thing, my life has changed and I’ve become more conscious bringing fitness into my life. I’ve also recently gotten an interest in cooking. I’ve perfected the breakfast sandwiches, rice, some proteins. I’d love to learn more about personal finance and investing. Have I gotten to it? Nope, but it’s top of mind for the next thing. My biggest hobby is sleeping and hanging out with friends/family... and do I sometimes feel unproductive and annoyed at that? Yes, but it makes me mostly feel rested and happy. Just get to one interest and move from there. I’ve had some things on my bucket list for yearssss lol. Give yourself a break. Be rested and relaxed. Love yourself. Enjoy music. Consider attending events. Take it one step at a time!

I think like someone said before, keep trying things. When you find that you lose track of the time doing it - that’s your passion
Think of all the small things that make you happy, then make it a point to do them every week:) for example- I love watching the sunset/sunrise and I do it once or twice a week. I also love writing so I make it a point to write every night in a journal. If I like coffee, I’ll visit my favorite coffee shop. Reward yourself for small victories
try new things until you figure out something you’re interested in. festivals/gym/ect.
❤️ is your answer. You need to love someone unconditionally. Try making couple of babies.(start with 1 😛). That will be your value addition to this world.
Boning makes me happy
What’s your super power?
To answer the second part of your question, I found my passion outside of work. It’s mainly golfing; I’m trying to see if I can get good enough to play in a pro tournament. But I’m beginning to enjoy the journey of learning all the things I need to be successful for practicing, exercising and dieting and experimenting in those areas to put together a custom program for myself. I stopped working to do this in September.
Do one thing to make someone’s day better. Could be a friend or someone you’ve never met.
