Wanted to share smth I found recently. I felt like it was pretty darn accurate. I’ll provide the link here but there’s a screenshot I took that I feel I can relate to quite heavily. https://pairedlife.com/love/infatuations
I’ve struggled with so many heavy infatuations before and a friend recommended this. Hope it helps anyone else out there who’s gone through this or may be going through this right now.

Follow up: had an appt with a different Dr on Demand psychiatrist (since I can’t get in with anyone in person until after the end of Feb). Went much better and feel like I’m finally getting some support and am getting started on some medication and we’ll see how it goes.
OP, your shrink sounds like he was terrible. not sure if you did either of these, but if i was in your position, i would:
1) look specifically for docs that specialize in ADHD. not just a psychiatrist that has “ADHD” listed on their qualifications. try to search around on the internet for what people are saying about top ADHD docs in your area. maybe ADHD forums or a look for a psychoanalysis practice that has several psychologists/psychiatrists. read their bios and such. do your research.
2) look through the DSM definition of ADHD and try to think about whether you truly meet the diagnosis criteria. this is just a preliminary step to suggest that if you don’t think you meet the definition, a doc probably won’t either.
OP - I struggled with this for a long time as well. It sucked because 1) I was extremely sensitive to “attention span” and “detail oriented” comments at work and 2) my psy doc telling me it was due to work habits. No matter what I tried I felt I lacked the ability to really focus, think of things bigger picture, and be productive for more than a few spurts during the day. Now that I’m almost one year medicated I can say without a doubt that my life has transformed.
What I’d recommend is meeting a new psy doc. With that in mind, is there a reason why your psy doc is unwilling to prescribe the appropriate ADHD medication? I don’t mean to go too personal, but I’ve found psy docs tend to have different views on ADHD medications and there’s a slightly different approach depending on why they won’t prescribe it for you.
Feel free to DM me for anything else. Wishing you the best and sending good vibes your way!
Wow I relate to your description of your symptoms so much. This encourages me to want to pursue ADHD meds (which I have wanted to try for years
Since I realized I might have it).
Ok thank you OP. This thread has convinced me to go seek help. What you are describing is what I am to a T.
Additional update for those who have been/are considering getting help. It’s been about a week but already medication is starting to help! Highly encourage everyone who is trying to get help or considering help to be persistent! And thanks those who reminded me of that and encouraged me to keep trying. Really glad I did!!
YOURE KILLING IT! That’s awesome to hear. Here’s to upwards and onwards
That maybe I should just decide I don’t want to take on any more responsibility at work (I’m going up for AP next year). I’m feeling really defeated and dismissed and like maybe I don’t deserve help.
Second what P2 said, good on you for taking the first step.
I understand your experience, as someone who has struggled with ADHD since adolescence. Look up a doctor who can administer a QB Test, one that can quantitatively show that you have ADHD or not.
A lot of your experiences remind me of myself. A good way to articulate your dilemma has to deal with Executive Functions (motivation, finishing tasks, hyper focus, etc.) due to a lack of norepinephrine.
Happy to talk over DM if you have questions. I’ve been through it all with medications-the good, the bad, the very ugly.
I’ve pretty much been told the same thing about my anxiety :|
I had the same thing with my primary care with similar symptoms as you, op. Wanted to put me on an SSRI straight away. I found a psychiatrist and was properly diagnosed. Good luck finding the right one.
Most ADHD prescriptions require a physical piece of paper and I don’t think Drs on Demand can provide this. Find someone local who can give you the piece of paper if you think it will help and use your sick days to take doctors appointments. Don’t worry about taking them, your team will be fine while you are taking care of yourself.
That’s really helpful to know. I’ve been worried I may need to go that route but really couldn’t stomach paying $375 for an initial session.
