I’m struggling with the hours of being in busy season what feels like for the entire year but I feel like if I put my two weeks in, I’m giving up and couldn’t make it and that feels wrong? Anyone else have these feelings?

Yes- a very real thing. Tax busy season is now somehow majority of the year… don’t feel bad about leaving. You know your limit and no one is judging you for leaving. A lot of us get it… please don’t feel guilty and do what you need to do to take care of your own mental, emotional and physical health. Best of luck!

I just put in my two weeks and felt the same way. Then I realized I don’t care :) I’m doing what’s best for me Soo 🤷‍♀️
They aren’t your family it’s a business
Also, public accounting has a great way of making you feel like career and income potential is the most important aspect of life so if you’re moving on … you’re the failure , when you aren’t

Absolutely agree with this.

There's no such thing as giving up, you're just recognizing your limits and doing what you can to maintain yourself.

Me and some others in my team, were struggling with results last year. I decided to move to a different service line, and it felt like I was giving up and it felt like I wasn’t good enough. now, after a year, I met again with my former coworkers, and when I asked them how they’re doing, they are all sad and tired and answered: It’s OK !! when they asked me how I’m doing, My answer was that I am happy, feeling fulfilled and I’m actually now enjoying my job so only then I realized that it wasn’t me that was giving up on the job, It was the others giving up on themselves. NGL, I still get tjat feeling every once in a while, but it goes away quick because I have full support from my current team.

Think about how they lay people off, it was just a call and you have to pack your thing in one day. I was feeling the same and I worked hard with those long hours. Until the moment I was told to pack my things, I still received email from SM told me to help on reviewing a work. I had 126% utilization and very positive feedback on snapshot. I asked for the reason, but they didn’t give me one. It was not worth it to work hard and sacrifice your life.

Knowing when to take a step back and prioritize yourself is just as important. It's not about giving up, it's about recognizing your limits and taking care of yourself. Your worth isn't defined by how long you can tough it out in busy season.

I'm going to stick this tax season out, and then consider someplace else. If taxes are done with clients that are only in house, I heard the hours are more relaxed, because there are no surprises. Not sure where I'll go, maybe after my end goal for analysis, maybe industry in some fields that's also caught my interest like property accounting. I like the people I'm working with, but I'm at the point where if I keep doing taxes, it'll be individuals and as a side job.

Tax season is a busy season. I don't think right now is a good time to quit unless you have a handsome savings account. It's been pretty hard for people to find a job in this current job market.
