I’m struggling with what to get my assistant and paralegal this year for Christmas. Last year was spa gift cards (high end spa) and the year before was dinner for two at a high end steakhouse. I’m spending roughly $100 per employee. Any suggestions?

I gave my paralegal a starbucks gift card because she buys it every morning. She loved it!

My boss gifts me a $150 Starbucks gift card plus $300 cash every year. I’m more excited about the free coffee 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Unless they are teetotalers, nice wine is good.

Cash only.

If they mentioned using the spa gift card, I say do that again! You can never go wrong with that.

Gift cards to Sephora if they like makeup, or a clothing store you know they like. You can also re do the spa gift cards if you know they liked it

Skip the make-up gift card unless you know for a fact that they're into make-up. It could be seen as a "here, you clearly need this."

Cash is nice but if you have a close relationship then the thoughtfulness of something else would be better. Though if you’re asking strangers on the internet for ideas… cash inside a good holiday card with a nice note of thanks might be the way to go.

Might this create a tax issue?

Cash

Cash, and if that feels impersonal, add a card thanking them for their hard work and something small (like under $15) that’s personal to the person (if assistant likes movie nights, a bunch of popcorn seasonings, a pot to hold a plant for the assistant who loves to garden, fancy teas for the teetotaler paralegal, etc).

Coming back to this thread. I talked to my paralegals who I bought nice wine for, and one of them doesn’t drink! He doesn’t drink coffee either! EEK!

They both have a long commute by train. Any ideas to make their commute a bit easier?

Hi everyone,
I passed my PMP thanks to this sub group.
I have passed Above Target in the People section, and T in the other sections.
It was 95% situational questions.
Thave used AR's mock exams, and used my wrong answers to figure out my weakness and where I truly stand. I didn't purchase AR's course, just the mock exam simulator.
The 200 agile questions by David McLachlan were amazing, it really helped me in adapting to an agile mindset. TIA simulator n Joseph Phillip is useful.

I switched two years ago from regional real estate/energy to a local small, but established residential real estate practice. While I’ve gained so much practical experience and run my own book here, I want to shift to a non-traditional remote role in real estate but keep getting turned down. I have strong credentials but I’m worried this small firm experience is killing my marketability to large companies.

Just started my first job at a mid size firm. Still awaiting bar results. The firm practices general civil lit - mainly defense (ID, prem liability, labor law, tort defense etc.) but some partners do plaintiff’s work too. So far they’ve had me working mainly on ID cases. I never knew people hate ID so much until I came on this app. Is it really that bad? Pay isn’t great but expecting a bump upon admission. Advice ?

Hello friends! A number of associates at my firm have formed an Associates Committee to represent the collective voice of the associates. We’re putting together a presentation for the partners on the mandate and role of the committee, but expect significant pushback. For this reason, I’m hoping those of you who work at firms with Associates Committees can provide me with some examples of how the partnership benefits from the committee. Many thanks in advance!

Decision - I was out the door of my nationwide ins dfense firm. Was going to top local firm with a lot more clout where everything would be private pay and I’d be more on bigger exposure cases. However, my firm outmatched the new firm, made a much better bonus structure, and said I could do more work with their complex bus lit group. I’d still likely do about 50 percent ins defense but I really like the partners I work for, and I handle own cases/take depos, and get autonomy. Am I right to stay?

I’ve been a lawyer for a month and a half and every month my firm gives out a detailed income statement. It shows how much it costs to have us and how much we bring in. I’m routinely netting a loss for the firm. I try not to get too down on myself but seeing it every month is starting to get to me. I guess I should reach out to partners to see if I should be worrying about this, but it seems so embarrassing. Anyone experience this in the same stage of career?

Currently in ID. A recruiter reached out with a plaintiffs side property/personal injury offer. The pay is $100-200k depending on experience. Since I can’t get anymore details out of the recruiter, and don’t have any knowledge of that side of the aisle l, is there a catch here? I always figured plaintiffs side had a lower base pay but got the real money from settlements.
