I'm supposed to join D. in Jan (after my original start dt got pushed from Sept.), however, due to circumstances outside of my control, I think I may need to push my start date - do you think the recruiter will be receptive to this? If you're an Army Reservist called to duty or training, isn't there a law/regulation about how your job has to be held for you? A company the size of D must have handled reservists before, and they at least have internal policies. Speaking with the recruiter early enough to plan accordingly should not cost you the offer or be considered a reneg.

If you’re vet, you’re a protected class.

They should be accommodating to your situation

like

You’re protected. Show them the orders when you have them. Not too complicated.

like

You signed a contract. Any breach of that contract as retaliation for military orders is illegal. Look up USERRA, become very familiar with it.

What circumstances specifically? If you have a serious family issue or something I’m sure they’ll understand.

Oh that’s a very valid reason and I’m sure the firm Will be 100% fine with that. But don’t do anything until you have orders in hand - anything can change.

like

They could be. Depends how long you need and what your circumstances are.

I think their next cohort starts in march if I'm not mistaken?

They're not going to pull your offer for asking. Just explain your situation and ask politely what options are available. Keep in mind you will have an even shorter performance year, so this may affect things like promo timelines and your first year rating

apologies for the *typos - trying to write this from mobile

If you're concerned about asking the recruiter directly, here is a long workaround: ask for a contact in Deloittes veterans employee group because you want to learn more about the community or whatever. Then ask that contact for info on how reservists handle such situations. Then act based on that info.

I miss having an office to go to and see others in. Even started skipping workouts & cooking, both of which I love. Could use hugs and inspiration to get past this hump
