I’m sure I am inviting an avalanche of negative comments from the “never going to the office again” crowd, but this article rang so true for me.

Some of my best friends in the world are people I would have never met if not for being in the office together. And we certainly would not have built the kind of friendships that would last (and grow even stronger) a decade later if we had only worked together over zoom. Not wishing for 2019, but do hope we can find some balance in a hybrid world…

HELP! 30+ years of teaching Sped and I’m at a loss. 6th grade student in Middle School with Doose syndrome. Prior to MS, the elementary said he never caused problems. Since the 1st day, he is disruptive in class, refuses to work, and is disrespectful. He has a one-on-one para but she is in tears most days because of his behavior. Parents agreed with a behavior plan - he thinks it’s a game. Parents say he is not allowed to be this way at home.

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. How hard is everyone pushing their corporate clients to authorize nonresident assignees whose only 2020 US compensation was the value of their 2019 tax preparation?
My clients are pushing back on it this year, and I can't say I blame them. If I were in their shoes, I'd rather take the risk of not filing than the expense of filing again. From my own point of view, I don't really want to spend my time on such returns, either, even if the revenue and easy return are nice.

I’m totally empathetic to people that miss offices and traveling. I understand your reasons why, I truly do.

For me personally, after non-stop weekly travel for 4 straight years, not traveling has made me realize how much I enjoy being home. Spending time with family, sleeping in your own bed, consistent exercise schedule, etc.

I for one hope consulting becomes more of a hybrid travel model (i.e. travel 1-2x per month or as needed). Else it won’t be for me.

Reading “the call” posts on LinkedIn is a cold reminder to be grateful for having a job. Too many career employees who gave their prime years to their employers are having to face a daunting job market. I pray many of them land on their feet, and truly hope they don’t face too much age discrimination. Any one of us could be or has been in similar shoes....
