Kids are smart. I bet your son knows who he can count on. And surely your son will see the value in a college education. I say take it as a win that your ex is paying for the car.

I know this is difficult. As a woman who paid for 100% of her sons college with the promise that my ex-husband would pay for half and he did not, I 100 hundred percent understand being in your shoes. But I learn to distance myself from my husband‘s behavior. If he wants to take my son on a trip or buying a car (I should be so lucky since he never contributes) that’s a relationship being built between the two of them and me paying for college, making sure his medical is taken care, of loving him and spending Christmas morning with him is our relationship. Your sons relationship with his father will ebb and flow I am sure given that your ex husband seems to be the kind of person who shows up when it’s a good time but isn’t really there for the tough times. But you’re a good mama and your relationship with your son will continue to blossom and grow. I wouldn’t worry your pretty little head about it you just go on being a great mama I know in your heart that there’s a reason why he’s your ex husband 😀

I feel your pain. I pay for school, car and everything while my ex insists on his 70% from me for every expense he picks up ($25 teacher gift etc.) and stresses my kids out to bring any clothes he bought back to his house. Ridiculous. But loves the benefits of their cell phones, car etc. that I pay for. Just have to remember it’s about (and for) our kids - not them.

How do i enter in VC at an analyst position (pre-MBA). I have been working in a consulting firm (focused on healthcare. Not MBB) in India for the last 2 years and have applied on the career portals/cold emailed multiple VC firms. I havent received any response till date and was wondering what would be the right way to go about this since its a very small network in India . Any lead or guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

Partners: How do some partners get fired? I know that on the surface it is due to their performance, but i am curious if you have any data points or observations on any underlying drivers. I work for a global firm, and though most partners I know are lifers, i personally have worked with a couple partners who were counseled out. They were seemingly good, competent consultants good at structuring problems. They cared about junior consultants. Didnt see any issues with clients..

So I live in a state that offers paid family medical leave and my company makes me manage applications with the state. I am supposed to get part of my paycheck from the state and part of it from short term disability (managed by Sedgwick who are THE WORST.) I received no guidance from HR on the type of leave I needed to apply for with the state so followed the instructions I was given by the state. Apparently I was supposed to file for a different type of leave and now no one is paying me…

What fund would you recommend to invest Roth IRA money in? I had started an account with EJ when I was straight out of college and didn't know much about investing. But now realizing EJ charges pretty high trade fees for buying with them. Also, while the Franklin Templeton funds they have me in have great returns, the expense ratios are close to 1%. So, looking for something with good returns but more cost-effective.

Opinions needed: I’m involved in BPN (black professionals network) at work. We try to have events and touch points each quarter, but obviously because of COVID we haven’t been able to do so. I am trying to brainstorm ideas for connecting virtually (email newsletters, zoom calls, etc) and possible topics to be included and discussed so that it won’t end up in just a negative venting session. I would like to keep it positive and upbeat. Ideas/suggestions welcome!

Not really sure what board is proper for this. But has anyone had an experience where your boss required paperwork for a raise? I started my job as an account manager at a less than reasonable salary, but I was under the impression that I would be able to grow and would have help. A lot of work is dumped on me at one time and all the responsibility falls to me, it's often way to much work for one person. I tried to negotiate a raise with my boss and lead with the fact that I was moving to the area and the salary was not conducive to rent here. He cut me off after my first point and said he'd figure it out. I never got to tell him about my workload. Long story short he required a lease agreement for me to get this raise. It took quite a while to get one... had a few places fall through. My landlord is in the middle of moving so was only able to forward me a PDF of the document that was unsigned, until she has time to meet. Now my boss wants a signed lease with all my roommates signatures too. This is not part of the contract I signed that simply says "provide a lease agreement"... tips?
