We had the same thing - some clients aren’t used to working with clients or view us as staff aug. Work on one person at a time and try coffee first / coffee meetings. Also consult your partner / director for suggestions - they may have context. Good luck!

1. Make small talk - try to allocate time at the beginning of some meetings to chat about what’s happened on the weekend, etc. Typically easiest to do this during meetings that are more casual (eg, weekly touchpoint). 2. Try to drop by people’s offices to say hi and chat (though not sure how this will be taken with COVID). People bond during unstructured time. Check people’s calendars and if someone seems like they’re going to be pretty free one day, walk by casually and talk for a few minutes. 3. Ask people for lunch or drinks. Similar concept - making casual connections. Typically easiest to bring this up as you conclude a chat in #2.

How can you support moody, passive-aggressive clients and not let it impact your mental health? I understand that managing the relationship is largely our job in account servicing, but the stress and anxiety is taking its toll on me. Honestly feels like being in an abusive/toxic relationship. And yes, senior management and leadership are aware of this attitude and supportive wherever possible, but can only do so much. Help!

For the Ms and SMs, How involved are you in the teams daily activities and review of client deliveries? My SM is very in the weeds. Wants daily status emails, wants to review everything, be on all client meetings, join team status calls and I think it’s excessive and borders being a micro mgr. They also think that I should be sending all client emails instead of the team lead under me. I don’t understand this thinking as when I was a team lead, I did all of that with minimal mgr oversight.

Currently in the final stages of the interviewing process for a "non-partnership track attorney" position at a top-ranked big law firm. Ladies I just went to an urgent eye clinic because I had a septoplasty (deviated septum fixed) and started to have eye pain. Had a check-up (front of eye and back of eye) by a resident doctor and he said everything looks good and the pain should go away as I heal. Good news on the health front AND we started talking and he’s my age and also cute and in a respectable profession and we’re both Indian (these things all matter to me). I want to call the clinic and ask for his number…do or don’t?
