I’m thinking about going off-track in the future when kids are in the picture. Does anyone know any whether off-track hours are actually respected and if it’s offered to anyone who is interested?

Off track hours aren’t respected. You may technically not be in the office, but you can bet your expected to drop everything and be available when needed. And when that falls on days you don’t have backup childcare? Not fun.

That’s what I was afraid of. What is the pay structure like for off track attorneys?

Basically trying to see if it’s an option for anyone or only a select few the firm decides to give this option to. Any insights or details about experience as an off-track attorney would be appreciated!

I am curious about this too...

This seems to relate to very niche roles in certain firms — e-discovery, knowledge management, conflicts, pro bono. I’ve seen positions advertised for off track counsel in areas like employment, etc. but my firm seems like it’s still the “up or out” model. Very hard for working parents!!

NYC Freelancers! My Medicaid is ending soon and I need to start making health insurance decisions (lame). My current agency is offering me FT and I’m pretty terrified as I feel like I’m going to sell away my freedom. Their health insurance is pretty good and allows me to put my partner on it. I’m trying to also rationalize paying for my own in NYC but it’s so expensive ($500+/mo). I go to the doctor fairly often. Single NYC freelancers (no kids), what do you pay monthly or yearly? Worth it?

Best Marriott property in or within 15m of downtown Houston?

Newly diagnosed & medicated and new to consulting.
I’m great with clients but getting bad evaluations because I’m slow to produce work and don’t take time to communicate status.
I’m trying really hard but I keep getting stuck in perfection loops and scared to share things before they’re perfect.

Did you struggle with this & find a way to improve? I’m terrified I’m going to get counseled out, but I love this job so much.

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing? I’m trying to be proactive and available to cross things off the list but I’m SLOW: takes me long enough that they do it themselves (even though this wasn’t an issue earlier in the deal) and even on quick tasks or emails, they respond to it before I can click send. There’s also so much about closing that I don’t understand and I feel like I’m bothering the higher-ups on the team whenever I ask. *end anxiety post*

So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. An interview for another firm kind of fell into my lap, and I'm debating whether to take it just for the sake of seeing what market really is. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?
