I'm thinking about lateraling to Quinn Emanuel but about a decade ago, I represented Apple (received Apple CBI that is no longer in my possession) in a case that QE was opposing counsel. My contact at QE informs me that Apple has always refused to sign a waiver that would allow one of its former attorneys to work at QE, even if that attorney is walled off matters where QE is against Apple.
Is this true? Has anyone had success getting an employment waiver from Apple?

Congrats on the new gig. Quick, likely unpopular, sidebar - as someone who reps Apple adverse to QE, it is full of a bunch of lil sh*ts. That being said I have only really heard of up to 5 years for conflicts.

like

Used to work there. Can also confirm they are little sh*ts.

Don’t know if it’s true but I doubt any company that’s adverse to QE is going out of their way to help them.

They have the same issues that many other lawyers have (posturing, fighting for the sake of it, being less than completely honest) but many of their lawyers take these traits to the ultra extreme.

like

I dont think it would be an issue. Even conflict checks date back only 5 years

Former QE associate. Do not go to QE unless you want to do everything yourself, including pay for your own laptop and expenses. They will fight you for a $10 reimbursement after working a 12 hr day, and make you work every weekend and holiday. It’s as miserable as reputed. The week after I left, another former QE associate messaged me on LinkedIn to congratulate me on getting out.

I think QE’s great. By definition of course, those who left are those who didn’t fit in, or weren’t good enough. I’m not saying that to be rude, I just think that it’s a reasonable inference to draw.

It’s a little like online reviews. The people most motivated to post them are those who are the most disgruntled. The rest of us are too busy enjoying our careers!

What's their beef with QE? I feel like I'm missing some important details?

Yah. More like zealous immolation. 🔥 🔥 🔥

Ten years ago? I doubt that’s a problem, unless you would be working on matters substantially related to the work you did for Apple?

I recently lateraled (granted, not to QE but a peer firm) and was only asked for 3 years worth of matters. Could be you don’t even have to list this. Good luck!

Hi I had someone recently tell me I should have my education and certifications above my experience on my resume. I found this weird as I thought since I had 5 years of work experience that would go first. They said since I graduated college in 2020 and was actively in a certificate program those should go above my current experience. Thoughts?
