I completely understand how you feel. When I went into medicine it wasn't for this.
I switched over to consulting and have been much more content with the flexibility and the ability to choose my own schedule
What type of consulting are you doing?
I totally agree with you, that’s why I left the bedside myself.
I always wondered why I couldn’t keep up with my caseload until I became a patient myself at the same hospital I had worked for. I’d have 4 couplets, meaning 8 patients!
I had a hysterectomy and was put on the mom/baby unit that I used to work on. The RN came in maybe once during her shift and the only physical assessment she did on me was to put her stethoscope on my right clavicle. 🙀 My BP was 60/30 and she said, it’ll go back up and never came back. The second I told her I was an RN, I got excellent care. That upsets me more than anything. Everyone should have access to quality healthcare!
So I went back to school, got an MPH in Epidemiology, worked for the CDC, CMS and DoD, all doing healthcare data analysis. I’ve been working from home almost a decade now and I feel like I’m saving lives by the thousands/millions.
I took a rather weird path, but I use that RN every single day.
Look into healthcare data scientists. It’s a highly sought after skill. You don’t necessarily have to go back to school, you could just study online and take lots of certificates.
If you’re worried about the math or learning how to code, lemme tell you, if I can do it, anyone can.
Currently I’m working for an organ transplant organization. We have tons of RNs that do things different than bedside care.
That RN is your golden ticket to opportunity, you just have to think outside of the box.
Same here. I'm thinking of going for a RD role or getting out of the field altogether into an office setting
Me too! I’ve been trying to search non clinical roles and applied. Being rejected for not being a nurse or business experience.
Rehab Director. Sorry, might also be known as program manager, director of Rehab as well
We all feel the same way ! Unfortunately we don’t have too many non clinical opportunities. Excited for you though! All the best
I am with you. I have been searching and searching for what else I could do on the non clinical side. Dallas area. 15YOE. Let’s dialogue more about opportunities. I have been looking into teaching at the collegiate level but I really don’t want to go back to school.
