I'm thinking of jumping ship. Is it really that taboo to go from one big 4 to another? Manager.

You can only go up from KPMG

No happens a lot. Mostly from others to Deloitte. ;-)

🙄 please.... I make just as much as you, if not more @accenture1 That joke is tired. I'm looking for some real advice.

Seriously, no issue. Happens all the time and as someone who hires, much easier when person is coming from consulting background.

like

But in all seriousness, if you are a manager at KPMG and are moving to another Big 4 for a manager position and more money, you really can only go up. Don't hate on the truth. You should do it and best of luck.

^ ouch.

Lol @ Accenture.

@pwc3 thank you for asking the real question. I'm appreciative for everything things are changing in my group and I'm not on board with the direction. Merely exploring my options, whether that be industry, another big 4 or making a power move in my own favor. .

Not frowned upon imo. And it's not all about "better firm". See where there are better project opportunities and obv more pay. I honestly found it that I am getting way more responsibility at acn than I was at D. Planning to come back to D when I can come in as experienced M or SM. Explore!

like

Lol @ACN....cute

Why would you want to jump ship?

Not frowned up on for sure. My manager is from Accenture and has been here for three years and is up for SM. She struggled the first few months but now has a great network and has relocated multiple times. Everyone likes her and no one ever brings up the topic of her past company.

Nah! It's a closed incestous industry. Everyone jumps around and sleeps around. It all depends on what culture works best for you and where you think you have the best opportunity for advancement and to make money.

It seems more common to switch around than not (assuming one stays on the consulting side). The rationale I heard is that you always get hired at market value... Your raise isn't necessarily at that. I've heard of people switch out of one firm back to the old getting both experience of how another firm does their thing and plus the pay upgrade vs staying at the same place

I turned down an offer at PWC last year because they wouldn’t bring me in as a senior manager / director, even though I had/have 10 years experience in consulting at a diff Big 4. Is it worth reaching back out to the recruiter to see the needs in the practice?

I do NOT miss those pings from the HR folks bright and early on Mondays if I billed less than 40 hours the previous week. I’m NEVER going back to a B4 firm.

Thoughts on Masters in Environmental Management programs? UCSB, Yale, etc. I have a non-technical degree (Bachelor of Arts) and have been in management consulting at a Big 4 the last 5 years. I want to pivot my career to do something more meaningful - make a positive impact in the world, rather than continuing to help rich corporations get richer. Thinking that doing a Masters will help arm myself with environmental / sustainability knowledge and a network.

So EY announced yesterday in FAAS all hands that they aren’t following other firms with mid year raises, but did make a comment that last year they had historical raises and PBB and they expect that to be the case again this year. If you are at EY what percentage raise are you going to be expecting to stay with EY? Based on other B4 mid year raises I am thinking ~15% would be competitive if they aren’t going to do mid year raises. Thoughts?

Big4 MD vs a non Big 4 (GT/RSM) or Boutique (CFGI/A&M) Partner. Any thoughts on which is a better path for longer term compensation and leadership opportunities. For context, am a high performing MD - been in top 5 PPMD by book of business in my practice for last 5 years and endlessly waiting to for a Partner promotion. So thinking to move on and try non-Big 4’s.
