Also if a couple of you could like this post, so I could Be able to DM a reviewer for follow up, I’d appreciate that.

I can’t shake this feeling...
I wish I felt supported at my job.
BIG mood but also it's crazy how putting in a full day's work in a tough environment like an agency can still be considered mediocre like... this industry is toxic as hell if you can only be considered good if you're putting in ridiculous weeks.
Ah fuck I’m interviewing clientside right now and Agency side, my ego says agency and chase “success” but fuck it if I don’t feel this too. ❤️ and good luck my Strat Sibling
I’ve been there. I’ve even taken the more stable 9-5 gig. Then after about 2 weeks, I felt like this scene from Bob’s Burgers: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=56RsdDNjGI4
Sounds like you’re perfect for an in-house agency...
But joking aside, OP, I know what you mean. It stinks that we feel obligated to burn ourselves out in pursuit of whatever this industry deems as “success.” Good luck on your hunt for normal employment and a balanced life.
I got laid off and the stress relief is fantastic; I keep thinking I just don’t want to go back to that life. But I have bills to pay and live in a super expensive city so I’m just trying to focus my search for in-house gigs.
Definitely recommend pursuing client side. After 15 years in agencies, every day feels like an emotional massage
Come client side! Although there maybe stressful periods (which company doesn’t have this?), I like heading out at regular times, and it’s nice to not check emails on weekends (unless I choose to).
Any leads would be appreciated!
I’ve done both agency and client side. It’s always greener on the side. When I went to client side, there were other BS I had to deal with even though hours were generally a little better.
So doesn’t matter if it’s agency or client...you need to find a company that’s a good fit with what you need.
Politics (which is at every company). Not enough staff to do the work (which is common also among agencies).
But in particular, I went to work in the marketing dept of hospital. With my pharma agency background, I was a shoe in. But the dept was not adept at marketing principles. No briefs, goals or objectives, or ability to measure success. There was no promotion path. So I went back to agency life in order to get promoted and make more money.
Just need to figure out what’s important to you and what need in a company vs what you can put up with.
Come client side! grass is indeed greener over here. Come in at 9, leave at 5:30. no nights or weekends. the work might be repetitive, but the improvement in the quality of life is totally worth it.
Any leads appreciated! Based on the responses here, definitely sounds like the way to go.
A lot of these comments assign all of the negative attributes to “this industry” when this will follow you into whatever industry you go to. Don’t get discouraged, keep grinding and when your time is right your hard work will start paying off. Your situation is not permanent, it’s only a temporary (necessary) hardship that you have to go through.
I hear you. 🙌
"I am not an exceptional man, so it is possible for me to stay with things the way they are. I’m lucky. I’m gifted. I have a talent for surrender. I’m at peace. But you are cursed; and I like you so it makes me sad, you don’t have the gift; and I see the torture of it." ~A Thousand Clowns. I highly encourage anyone going through my similar existential career angst to watch/read this excellently relevant scene.
